As promised.

A short time ago the final US Combat troops exited Iraq into Kuwait ending the United States combat operations in Iraq some 7 1/2 years after first entering the country.

Nope. Obama promised during his campaign they would be out 16 months into his presidency. That was 3 months ago.

Oh, and there will still be 50k troops in Iraq for at least another year. The Obama admin won't refer to any of them as "combat troops" to pacify the left.

Kind of a big shrug on this one - most of the heavy lifting when it came to Iraq was done before Obama even became President, and he's basically been following the plan that was already created by the previous administration. It's good that Obama was able to allow this to continue as planned, but his input into it was pretty minimal. And yes, deciding not to call the 50k troops still over there as "combat troops" is a bit of a play of semantics. I would be interested in seeing how the left would react if a Republican President did this - it has a bit of a "Mission Accomplished" feel to it all - celebrating something while ignoring that we aren't there yet.

But this is a good thing for Obama, and he needs it of late.

Now if he would only start bringing home troops from that other place...

Disagree, Ganny. He did what he said he would. The troops still there are necessary and even the most thick-headed Conks know that. Ultimately, the runners still on base will count against Bush's ERA.

It only goes against the ERA if the runs are earned...with all of the errors by both "pitchers" I don't think anymore runs are "earned"

Exhibit A: Obama grasping at straws, searching desperately for a positive news story in the summer of political death he finds himself and his party in.

Of course he's doing what he said he would do, but basically what he said he would do is just a rehash of the plan that was in place before he even became President. It's good that he's doing it, but all he did was stay the course that was laid out for him. That's why it's still, as you say, Bush's ERA - he started Iraq, and it's his plan we're following now for leaving Iraq. Clearly it's his legacy.

As for the troops that are still there, I agree they need to be there - I'm not sure what the thick-headed Conks (or thick-headed Donks) may think, but they didn't get to be thickheaded by thinking. But my point was that it's odd to celebrate a milestone that really means little - the troops still there will still end up in combat as they can be requested by Iraq to do just that. I've got no problem with what the plan is, just have a hard time seeing this as any real substantial milestone.

Once the remaining 50k troops leave, currently scheduled at the end of 2011, Obama plans to double the number of US military contractors in Iraq.

That should help reduce the deficit (sarcasm).. I'm sure it'll be ok, after they cut a few more teacher/ professor jobs though, that should help employ the mercenaries for a few months longer.

UNH and the Cap'n in bed together...quite a sight!

A rose is a rose by any other name.

C'mon, Cappy :dunce: , Obama is hiring 7,000 "security guards"...you know, the same hired guns used by Bush that the left criticized...to respond wth force to attacks. They will be paid by the State department...you know, the same US State Department on the US government's payroll. Take the soldier out of service and put him in a different uniform. Same employer (Uncle Sam)...same mission...same shit...different name.

GF is right on with the "mission accomplished" analogy. :thumb:

In fact, someone should photoshop that "Mission Accomplished" sign with Cap'n in between Bush and Obama wearing a shirt that says <-----I'm am/with stupid----->.

I guess all those troops left in Iraq are NON-combat, eh?

Non-combat soldiers.

What's next? Combat nuns?

D1B would love that.

That presence is far from over. Scatterings of troops still await departure, and some 50,000 will stay another year in what is designated as a noncombat role. They will carry weapons to defend themselves and accompany Iraqi troops on missions (but only if asked). Special forces will continue to help Iraqis hunt for terrorists.

So the U.S. death toll - at least 4,415 by Pentagon count as of Wednesday - may not yet be final.
Mission Accomplished. 8-)

My comment is not directed at what should be done. This is directed at the bullshit covering and excuse making that the Donks do just like the Conks were doing when the Donks were attacking them over some of the exact same shit they are now touting as "Victories"!

If you fucks can't see that you are the exact same chumps that you professed the conks to be then I can't help ya.

Kudo's to Obama for finishing up Bush's withdrawl from Iraq. If McCain was in office the donks would be complaining about the 50,000 soldiers remaining. Now if he can get them out of Afghanistan before a war officially starts in Pakistan.
