Democrats got 88 percent of 2008 contributions by TV network execs, writers, reporters

Senior executives, on-air personalities, producers, reporters, editors, writers and other self-identifying employees of ABC, CBS and NBC contributed more than $1 million to Democratic candidates and campaign committees in 2008, according to an analysis by The Examiner of data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks, with an average contribution of $880.

By contrast, only 193 of the employees contributed to Republican candidates and campaign committees, for a total of $142,863. The average Republican contribution was $744.

Isn't Fox also a major network? Why weren't they included? Sounds like someone was cherry picking the numbers just to get a story. :ohno:

If they limited the survey to the over-the-air networks, then the cherry-picking charge does not apply. Air networks are commonly separated from cable networks.

If, however, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CNN-HN, etc., were included and FOX News was not, then THAT would be cherry-picking....

I could be way off here, but my impression is that if they included the cable networks the number would be much, much worse. FOX is just one network among many and I doubt they would offset MSNBC, CNN, et al. AND that's assumeing that every single network exec, journalist and talking head at FOX contributed to the Republican Party.

How about this...

The Examiner story in the OP looked at contributions up to 2008...the big Fox contribution was in 2010...

I agree. The idea that a second stimulus is needed is, indeed, an outrage. But maybe that Op-ed column wasn't the article you were linking.

FOX is a major over-the-air network.... So why wasnt FOX (Not FOXNews) included?

Umm, FOX (not FOX News) doesn't have a news division. Just like CBS and ABC don't have a cable news division. It's as simple as that.

And what does just one of those horrible nasty evil free enterprise organizations think of Jeffery Immelt, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of GE?

Free Enterprise Project Launches Petition Calling for GE CEO Jeff Immelt to Resign; Says Immelt’s Support of President Obama’s Big Government Agenda is a Risk to Liberty

"Washington, D.C. – Today the Free Enterprise Project released an online petition calling for Jeff Immelt to resign as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric.

The petition can found at http://www.bigbusinesswatch.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

“In a desperate attempt to find revenue, Immelt is seeking to profit from President Obama’s big government agenda,” said Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Public Policy Research’s Free Enterprise Project. “Immelt successfully lobbied for Obama’s failed $787 billion economic stimulus plan and now he is actively lobbying for the president’s cap-and-trade policy. Immelt’s actions are responsible for putting our nation in deeper debt and looting future generations of their economic liberty.”

“Immelt has positioned GE to depend on government spending and public policy initiatives such as cap-and-trade to boost the company’s revenue. For instance, Obama’s cap-and-trade policy would mandate the purchase of renewable energy products such as wind turbines which GE manufactures,” added Borelli.

“Our tax dollars are being laundered to bailout GE via Obama’s big government policies. Under the Obama – Immelt partnership, our progressive president significantly increases the role of government in our lives, Immelt gets much needed revenue and Americans pay for it all in terms of higher taxes, higher national debt and suffer from reduced liberty,” said Tom Borelli."
