Speaking of Michael Scheuer-

I mentioned him in another thread; he used to be the chief of the Bin Laden Unit at Langley. He has a blog called Non-Intervention. His latest post addresses Obama's latest speech on Iraq.

What struck me about the essay was his sixth point, the next to last paragraph. I think it is spot on. Until we are ready to wage total war against those who would try to kill Americans, we will never win. Since we do not have that kind of resolve, it is best to just defend out borders and leave the rest of the world to solve its own problems.

I prefer to wage total war against those who would kill Americans, but in the absence of a consensus to do so, you and Michael Scheuer are correct.

Why non-intervention.com?

"...some wars are both necessary and unavoidable; ...the only mercy in war is an enormous application of military power that wins victory for the United States in the shortest possible time. At present, the only war that falls into the necessary and unavoidable category, in my view, is our war against al-Qaeda and the growing Islamist forces it leads and inspires... the Founders’ recipe for safeguarding America in 1789 remains pertinent today: all Americans must be vigilant of their liberty; politically active in its defense; broadly educated to help assess politicians, policies, and foreign entities that threaten that liberty; and armed to defeat enemies, foreign or domestic, who threaten that liberty. ..."

I think his position is non-interventionIST. He probably should have more accurately named his blog non-interventionism.com.

So far we've given Al Qaeda everything they could have hoped for and more.

 How are we going to find them, natal? We can't even catch a 6'7" Ay-rab who is hiding in one of our allies' backyard.
