Making a big bowl of popcorn now.

Hey, Graddy, you lost me after, "Dr. So-n-So...is a seventh generation Mississippian..."

:coffee:

Just kidding.

I agree with you and this doctor 100,000%. Yet, in the back of my mind, this little thing about manufacturing and marketing addictive products to people then bitching about the cost for care when they get sick all the while providing corporate welfare and tax breaks to those companies to build a new cigarette plant in an impoverished area of already addicted smokers is rather contrary, is it not? A purely American invented phenomenon.

:D

You can say the same about alcohol, but that whole Prohibition thing didn't work out very well, did it? Ultimately, we are all responsible and accountable for our individual choices and vices.

Um, yes, Graddy, but it's been proven in court that these government sanctioned enterprises also manipulated their products, particularly, tobacco, in order to maintain their customers' addictions and keep people buying them. Same with alcohol and 40 oz malt liquors preying on the poor. Same can be said of food manufacturers and fast food chains.

It's one of America's most shameful phenomena - capitalism running amok and burying the nation at the same time, all with the tacit approval of the government.

Should we throw our health care dollars at the chicken or the egg? Which came first here?

I'd wager no one has ever FORCED you to drink a beer...eat fast food...smoke a joint...

Yet you're admittedly over weight and having health issues...

I'm lost...the same alcohol and fast food and drugs are available to me and millions of people who are not in the same condition as you...or the woman in the attached article...

Why should anyone other than those people be responsible for their health care...

I'm about 3 minutes away from a Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell and Jack In The Box. Yesterday I drove an extra ten minutes to eat a chicken salad sandwich and raw veggies for lunch. That is my choice almost every day.

I can't swing a dead cat without hitting a sports bar, but I haven't had a drink in at least six months. I like to have a drink once in a while but it isn't a big part of my life because I choose a different lifestyle.

I smoked weed in high school and then I chose to grow up.

It's all about personal choices.

Hey, Shizzle, I ain't intendin' to argue with you, just pointing out that there is more to the story than some individuals' sloth. No need to get personal, either, friend. If you've never had these issues, you don't know what it's like to live with them.

Regardless, my point is also that SOME responsibility lies with corporations and how they prey on people. The nicotine-manipulated cigarette thing is a prime example. THAT, to many, including our courts, is putting a gun to peoples' heads!

Chill, think about the bigger picture, that's all.

Love ya, Graddy! :kisswink:
