Senate needed 60 votes to overturn and only got 56 (57 if you account for Reid switching his vote to Nay so that he can bring the issue back up for vote later on - procedural thing). Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor were the only 2 Dems voting Nay. Susan Collins was supposed to be the 1 Conk voting for it but she switched her vote due to Reid closing off debate on Conk amendments to the defense spending bill (which the DADT amendment was tied to).
Bottom line, if this was important to Dems this would've happened. Actually if this was important to Dems this never would've happened at all from the start.

This is why I hate politics. Quit tying unassociated amendments to a bill. Argue the amendment on its own merits.
