Yup. Grandfather was a POW in USSR (he was Austrian). Father volunteered for WWII as a 17 yo for the USA Navy. Great American story.Cap'n Cat wrote:89Hen wrote:Where's my money? Wait, my grandfather fought for the Axis in WWI.

Yep, weird century. My GGF escaped the turmoil in Russia and Lithuania for the peace and serenity of Pittsburgh. GF a soldier in Battle of the Bulge. Didn't kill any innocents, either.

This picture is considered "funny" by the vast majority of Americans...yet put Obama in a similar picture and people will want you killed for being racist.Cap'n Cat wrote:89Hen wrote:Where's my money? Wait, my grandfather fought for the Axis in WWI.

It wasn't a weird century. There are no permanent enemies or allies. There are only permanent interests.Cap'n Cat wrote:89Hen wrote: Yup. Grandfather was a POW in USSR (he was Austrian). Father volunteered for WWII as a 17 yo for the USA Navy. Great American story.

Shit, we ALONE pushed Germany and the world over the brink by leading everyone into the Great Depression, directly causing the rise of the Nazis. We owe THEM for that!

Awesome. My wifes GGF fought for Germany in WW1 and WW2. He was a mountain troop officer and was a POW for most, in Siberia.T-Dog wrote:http://www.spiegel.de/international/ger ... 20156.html

Don't need to picket them. They're empty.

Not true. Churchill and the rest of Europe handcuffed the Germans via the Treaty of Versailles which was so well written that it pretty much guaranteed a second world war.Cap'n Cat wrote:Shit, we ALONE pushed Germany and the world over the brink by leading everyone into the Great Depression, directly causing the rise of the Nazis. No. While the United States was suffering the Great Depression, Europe made a relatively quick recovery from the recession of the early 30s and Germany had a rather strong economy. Germany's worst economic days were in the 20s, when the United States economy was roaring.Cap'n Cat wrote:Shit, we ALONE pushed Germany and the world over the brink by leading everyone into the Great Depression, directly causing the rise of the Nazis.
