Black Farmer Reparations

In 1997’s Pigford vs. Glickman case, approximately 400 African American farmers sued the US Department of Agriculture claiming racial discrimination from 1983-1997. When the case was settled an estimated 2,000-3,000 claims were expected to be filed with awards reaching $50,000 each.

Today, nearly 92,000 black ‘farmers’ are claiming ‘Pigford’ reparations — 5 times the number of blacks who were operating farms at the time.

The 2007 Agricultural Census shows a total of 39,697 ‘Black or African-American’ farm operators — keep in mind that’s 10 years after the last ‘Pigford’ year. Interesting that the National Black Farmers Association puts their 2007 figures at only 18,000. In short, a minimum of 500% of all 'Pigford' black farmers were discriminated against.

To date almost $1 billion has been paid or credited to the black farmers under the settlement's consent decree. And that’s not enough. As of February 2010, President Obama and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack promised an additional $1.15 billion to cover remaining claims.

Those of us that are of German decent should get reparations for the way our ancestors were treated when there was an influx of German immigrants in the 1800's, and the way they were treated during WW2 in America.

I think I read that the same thing happened in the Gulf when BP was handing out cash to fishermen.

If you're responding to my post, I really could give a shit. Until American farms have difficulty feeding everyone in our own country, what's left over is simply the cream. If they're still uncompetitive so be it. Helping out poor farmers is another story altogether and it should transcend race. I'm just wondering whether Cluck is a racist or not.

Thief is not a strong word when 92,000 people, more than those who existed in this case, claim to be black farmers who deserve reparations. Some of that number are indeed thieves.

You know what is funny? There are probably a bunch of white thieves filling out that paperwork stating that they were black farmers in hopes that the government doesn't do its due diligence.
