Stupid Electioneering Rules

A voter in Texas this week was denied access to a voting booth to cast a early ballot because she was wearing an Obama t-shirt. Poll workers told her a person may not electioneer for or against any candidate, measure, or political party in or within 100 feet of an outside door through which a voter may enter the building or structure in which the early voting polling place is located.

Thats all nice and well, but Obama isn't on the ballot this year.

Head up to the northeast now where in Connecticut the Secretary of State is warning voters not to show up wearing any type of WWE merchandise, because they will be turned away due to measures limiting electioneering inside voting areas.

These laws are stupid. I can sort of understand not allowing flyers to be handed out right outside the voting place but this is crazy.

These laws are in place to keep polling places from turning into circuses. Though I do agree that it is silly in a situation were the shirt is for a elected official who does not appear on the ballot. We have the exact same law in MT, but it is only on Election Day.
