Baltimore Hands Out First Trans Fat Citation
Trans Fats Banned From Facilities In 2009

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore City Health Department issued its first environmental citation for repeat violations of the city's trans fat ban.

The Health Department issued Healthy Choice, a food facility in the 400 block of Lexington Street, a $100 fine on Thursday.

"It was the second time they were found with a high trans fat level in their ingredients," said Health Department agent Juan Gutierrez.

Officials said that during inspections in July and this month, the facility was found to be using a margarine product with trans fat levels in excess of what the law allows.

The law banning food facilities from serving or selling non-prepackaged food items containing 0.5 grams or more of trans fats went into effect in September 2009.

"While we are pleased with the high rates of compliance we've seen since the ban took effect, we will continue to sanction businesses that repeatedly fail to comply."
- Dr. Oxiris Barbot, Commissioner of Health

"They originally had a margarine that was above 3 grams, actually, which is very high compared to the .5 that is allowed. Then when we came back and they had replaced it, they replaced it with one that was 2 grams, so it still was too high," Gutierrez said.

Agreed. If people want to be fat, it's their right to be so.

The restaurant cited was "Heathy Choice". Wanna bet what percentage of their patrons are "obese"?

Check your Ergo hoc, propter hoc at the door.

Reminiscent of Cap'n circa 2007 when he pronounced the impending economic collapse was hype and the rising unemployment in CA wouldn't effect the rest of the country...

How'd that work out for you, Cap?

'skay, Kalm...

...I'll probably start hiring again in early 2013, as soon as Obama's gone. I'll keep you in mind.

Darn it, I was hoping that bone I threw ya wouldn't go over your head. :ohno:

Most business owners hire people when demand goes up and a worker can generate more income than he/she is payed. You on the other hand apprently base hiring decisions on politics. What a bitter world you must live in.

But don't worry about me. I plan on working my ass off over the next few years and semi-retiring in '13 when I can pay others to do my job for me. I love being a capitalist.

1. Bullshit "Rovian" scare tactic lie.

2. Most drug offenses are victimless crimes, our prisons are filled with non violent offenders and victims of the failed policies of fucks like you, Nixon and Reagan. The Drug War was lost 40 years ago, dumbass.

Trans fat is as dangerous or more so than cigarettes. I'm sick of paying high healthcare premiums so the republican base can have their cheeseburgers and chicken fried meats.

Fuck you Tman, you fat fuck blowhard idiot alcoholic.

*I'm back fuckers, watch out.

Um, link????

Reason why I ask is that I've been waiting for capitalism's ugly collapse for fifteen years now, T, just to shove it up your Conk ass, but know I said no such thing here....or there. Use native for your fall guy, not me.

Again, proof would be a good thing for you here, CroMagnon Phil.

I agree with your general sentiment, t-man, but trans fats are a particularly egregious human invention that cause far more harm than good.

I don't think a city has any business in this level of regulation, but I do think the federal and state governments bear some regulatory responsibilities in this case.

Twas in August 2007...had just returned from helping one of my Fresno clients restructure after laying off most of his workforce. Within the context of a "debate" with Cleets in which I was warning that the economic collapse which had started in CA would move east as CA is "the face of the wave". You interjected that it was a CA problem that would not effect you (specifically referenced yourself).
I've not made light of this, as I don't view any person's job difficulties as fodder for public discussion, but NEVER forgot the specificity of your boast.

Whether you wish to admit it or not, I've been spot on within 2-3 months of every timeline landmark of this recession, including magnitude and duration.

BTW, several "independent" studies have validated my corner date of 2013, including UOP's released this week:

Now that we are enlightened enough to have universal healthcare, we must ensure that Americans lead healthy lives using legal coercion if necessary. We need a trans-fat ban at the federal level and need to ban foods that have more omega-6 fats than omega-3s.

Isn't this a "States Rights" situation..?
Who cares what the state of Maryland does - the voters - ultimately decide how this goes down
if they don't like it they'll change it - No..?

What's your point, Chizzy? You can't criticize city and state governments just because you think the federal government has gotten too powerful?
