It is old news, but G.W. Bush beat Obama 50-42 in a mock presidential election in Ohio last summer.

Oh, contraire, mon ami. The votes trump everything else. Personal economics - NOT ideology - drives the votes in all but the most atypical elections, and even then the personal economics drives the ideology. Otherwise, there would be NO blue dog Dems, especially in the south.
