No, it's not the latest Turkish porn video I beat off to, but, rather, a show on MTV about sixteen year old boys and girls who find themselves caught in pregnancies and who learn how to juggle school and work and parenthood.
Ever see it?
I'm no Phyllis Schlafly-Conk Culture Cvnt, but I, nonetheless, think the show somehow "glorifies" teen pregnancy. Yeah, they show the girls staying up all night taking care of the baby and never getting her studying done, and they show the boy working extra hours at the town Hardware Hank while trying to pass Math and graduate. However, when I put myself into a 16 yr old girl's shoes, I begin to think how "wonderful" it is to have my friends and Mom throw me a big-ass shower and receive tons of gifts - it is portrayed as all soooo easy....and fun! Nevermind that 90% of the boys in these shows are fucking dunderheads who shouldn't even be flipping burgers.
Man, it's one of my biggest fears that one of the Little Cats knocks up some neighbor girl and we have to go through that parenting hell. If it happens, I'll be supportive, but, damn it, I'm doing all I can to emphasize to my boys the need to not get caught in that situation! At 14, they're inheriting my porn collection.
For me, I believe in sex ed; abstinence-only is a joke. Parents SAY they want to be the ones who teach their kids about sex, but a huge number of them don't actually do it - mostly becasue they don't know how and they default to their own less-than-pleasant experiences with sex talk. Funny, too, that of all the episodes, I've watched in the last couple of months (15-20), they've all taken place in the South.
Thoughts on, or experiences with teen pregnancy?
"Sorry, Daddy."

Agree 100%. Hate these kinds of shows as it does glorify it in the manners you listed as well as brings attentiaon & fame (infamy) to the participants.....show me a 14-16yr old kid who doesn't emulate what they see on TV....fokking irresponsible as hell...

I think it shows how most of the girls struggle. My wife watches it and many girls I know watch and all see that these girls struggle. That's what i take from the show.

I don't see what's race sensitive (or insensitive, whatever) about that.
There are idiotic and irresponsible breeders of every color out there.

How about a show where the pregnant teen tells the “father” but he runs off and says it’s not his? Then the pregnant teen is stuck with a kid all by herself. That sounds like a better dose of reality that what this show seems to portray.

Have caught a show or two and I agree with the Cappy on this one. Somehow it is seemed cool by today's standards but that is the overall pulse of America. I see early 20 somethings on an almost daily basis applying for disability benefits, filing bankruptcy, getting Medicare, etc, etc to the point that it is sickening. These kids that are having kids, for the most part, have been raised by folks, or a single parent, who made the same mistakes. Unfortunately, it does seem to be "passed down" these days more often than not.
Sad state of society and Cap'n, I am with you on the sex ed stuff. Even as a Catholic, I have always struggled with the birth control debate. People are gonna fuck, it's what we wired to do but for God's sake, people MUST be responsible.

Unplanned children are a bigger problem than the deficit.

My wife watches this show and I think it is actually really depressing. It shows kids giving up their babies for adoption, giving up their lifetsyle as teenagers, or struggling mightly to scrap by a meager existence.
As Cap'n said the boys on this show are complete idiots. The one show I watched had a 16 or 17 year old boy who was the skater type. He stopped going to school when he was 14--seriously 14! His plans for life was to be a famous skateboarder. Good luck with that.

DO NOT get me started on that. I had one case where the 25 yo kid living with his grandmother went to the ER complaining of dizziness and "stress," after his grandmother asked him to do things like his laundry, make his bed, and mow the grass b/c he felt it was "too much for a 25 year old."
Yes, he was denied.

Reminds of a chain mail a buddy just sent. My favorite is #2:
The following are all replies that Detroit
women have written on Child Support Agency Forms in the section for listing
'Father's Details,' or putting it another way... Who's your baby's Daddy?
These are genuine excerpts from the forms. Be sure to check out #11, it
takes 1st prize and #3 is runner up.
1. Regarding the identity of the father of my twins,
Makeeshia was fathered by Maclearndon McKinley I am unsure as to the
identity of the father of Marlinda, but I believe that she was conceived on
the same night.
2... I am unsure, as to the identity of the father of my
child as I was being sick out of a window when taken unexpectedly from
behind. I can provide you with a list of names of men that I think were at
the party if this helps.
3. I do not know the name of the father of my little girl.
She was conceived at a party at 3600 East Grand Boulevard where I had sex
with a man I met that night. I do remember that the sex was so good that I
fainted. If you do manage to track down the father, can you please send me
his phone number? Thanks...
4. I don't know the identity of the father of my daughter.
He drives a BMW that now has a hole made by my stiletto in one of the door
panels. Perhaps you can contact BMW service stations in this area and see
if he's had it replaced.
5. I have never had sex with a man. I am still a
Virginian. I am awaiting a letter from the Pope confirming that my son's
conception was ejaculate and that he is the Saver risen again.
6. I cannot tell you the name of Alleshia's dad as he
informs me that to do so would blow his cover and that would have
cataclysmic implications for the economy I am torn between doing right by
you and right by the country.. Please advise.
7. I do not know who the father of my child was as they all
look the same to me.
8. Tyrone Hairston is the father of child A. If you do
catch up with him, can you axe him what he did with my AC/DC CDs? Child B
who was also borned at the same time..... well, I don't have clue..
9. From the dates it seems that my daughter was conceived
at Disney World. Maybe it really is the Magic Kingdom .
10. So much about that night is a blur. The only thing
that I remember for sure is Delia Smith did a program about eggs earlier in
the evening. If I had stayed in and watched more TV rather than going to
the party at 8956 Miller Ave , mine might have remained unfertilized.
11. I am unsure as to the identity of the father of my
baby, after all, like when you eat a can of beans you can't be sure which
one made you fart.
WHEN THE WEALTH IS REDISTRIBUTED THESE PEOPLE WILL BE THE
MAJOR RECIPIENTS.
