Rep-Elect Andy Harris (R-MD), A Grade A Asshole

Mr. Harris showed up for orientation and quickly became annoyed when he found out his government health insurance wont take effect until February 1, 2011, about a month after he takes office... That's a lot better than normal everyday Americans have as they generally have to wait 90 days for company health insurance.
"He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care," said a congressional staffer who saw the exchange. The benefits session, held behind closed doors, drew about 250 freshman members, staffers and family members to the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium late Monday morning,".

"Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the government to cover the gap," added the aide, who was struck by the similarity to Harris's request and the public option he denounced as a gateway to socialized medicine.

Newsflash....very few companies make you wait 90 days anymore.

But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Carry on. :coffee: :coffee:

But it is ironic that he ran on an anti-Obamacare platform; gets elected and then complains that he, and not the Federal Government, will have to pay his health care for one month.

No doubt he'll be looking to cut other peoples benefits while in office, he sure doesn't seem to anxious to make any sacrifices fo his own though.

That "waiting period" is one tiny aspect of government employee healthcare...running "on an anti-Obamacare" platform involves so much more than that that Travis' argument is laughable.

And we have a system that's so bloated by corporate bureaucracy and profit that god forbid something does happen he may not be able to afford it out of pocket or go bankrupt in the process. Ain't karma a bitch. :ohno:

There's a built-in solution. It's called COBRA. Look into it.

I'm self insured, I was speaking to the underlying problems which didn't get fixed by Obamacare. :coffee:

Employers are MANDATED to offer it, so yes, it is.

Sure, they're "mandated" to offer it, but guess who PAYS for it?

That's right....THE EMPLOYEE.

Oh, and one other thing: It's not permanent. It's got time limits.

So, the solution already exists, yet we get a $787 billion, 2000 page bloated bill to solve a problem that didn't exist.

Except that it is only available to those that have EXISTING coverage, it runs out, and not available to self-employed, etc

So? You taking lessons from Clitorus? Losing an argument so you change it?

There are insurance programs out there for self employed. I know several business owners who have their own coverage, and many times it's cheaper than the HMO-type coverage we get.

And speaking from personal experience, I know that to be the case.

I had an employer offer me group coverage once in my life and the private insurance plan I had at the time was cheaper. I now have friends on large scale employer plans like teachers who still pay more out of pocket for similar family coverage than I do self insuring my family.

Now that I'm an employer, I'd love to provide a healthcare bene, but my small business simply can't afford it at this point. So I'd much prefer to have a medicare for all type plan where my employees are kept productive through affordable basic socialized medicine than to have our premiums go toward the 6th vacation home and 3rd yacht of some insurance company executive that makes money off of denying people benefits. That's simply good for business, my business, small business, what America is supposedly built on.

This turd of a simpleton congressman can blow me. :coffee:

You do understand that in the current form the insurance company executives are still getting rich, don't you?

I've mentioned my issue with Obamacare for quite some time. In fact, I brought it up just a few posts ago on this thread. Thanks for listening. :ohno:

Harris is a prince compared to the guy he beat: the simpering nonentity Frank Kratovil.

While he didn't come back, he didn't get owned, or even close.

If anything, Z and the rest of his choir did...
