A Really Dumb New Tax in Delaware

For as long as I can remember, Delaware has had a refundable nickel deposit on bottles. You buy a case of beer, they charge you an extra $1.20. Bring the bottles back, get your $1.20 back or let it cover the deposit on your next case. It's a beautiful concept, providing incentive to recycle.

Now, Delaware has done away with this and imposed a 4 cents/bottle tax. Now you pay $0.96 on top of the price of a case with no hope of ever getting it back. Feel free to toss your bottles in the median strip of the highway as you're heading back to the liquor store.

They rammed this through on the basis that it will support new recycling initiatives. Well guess what, we already paid a hike for those, you fucktards.

Stupid :ohno: : http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... +two+weeks

So you're in favor of new taxes to disincentivize recycling and increase landfill and litter?

Weird.

But I see they're giving people until February 1 to clean out their garages for the old bottle credit.

I agree, 93... another stupid idea from our great General ASSembly. :ohno:

I think it will increase recycling and decrease landfill and litter. :?
Under the universal recycling program, waste haulers will provide recycling collection to all single-family homes in Delaware, as well as bars and restaurants, by Sept. 15.

We've had curbside recycling in place for two years already in Kent County and our tax bills were adjusted accordingly. That bill will not be reduced once this new tax starts. The new tax serves no purpose, in my case, but to disincentivize me from returning bottles for credit. I'll give you an example. I went to UMass this weekend and saved all of our glass bottles in a bag. With this new law in place, those would have gone right in the closest dumpster in UMass Lot 22. Very dumb, and counter to the green agenda that so many Democrats, I thought anyway, stood for.

How do you not have cirrhosis of the liver and a BMI of over 50???

Also, for those of you complainging, at least Delaware is a small state. Drive to MD, VA, PA, or NJ to get your beer.

I think everyone is missing the point that it's a regressive tax on cheap, bland beer. Obviously the Dogfish Head lobby is strong in Delaware. ;)

Speaking of which... there is a new show coming on Discovery called Brewmasters, hosted by Sam Calagione, owner of DFH. It premiers this Sunday at 10pm. :thumb: :notworthy:

See that is your problem. You bought the lie that Democrats stood for anything more than stealing money from your pocket and giving to the government (where in Delaware all the Democrats are employed)

I'm glad you know what lies I've bought. Strange, seeing as how I voted for more Republicans than Democrats a couple of weeks ago.

If you voted for even one Delaware Democrat, you are part of the problem.

If you voted for Christine O'Donnell, you need to get to a psychiatrist immediately.

What a dumb law. I live about 15 miles from the DE state line and Total Wine & More which is just over the De/Pa state line in DE about a 1/4 mile off the I95/495 exit. I stop there often whenever I'm headed south- just stopped there last Fri on the way down to the W&M @ JMU game. I've got a couple of cases worth of bottles from there that I'm going to drop off the next time I'm there. Will be the last time I drop off bottles there. From now on they'll just go in the trash, as my cans do.

What a dumba** law that will obviously reduce recycling.

You started a thread bitching like a girl about a tax that a Democratic Delaware government passed...a tax that is scheduled to end after the "recycling fund" (pssst...you might want to check out where the funds are really going  ) reaches $22 million. Good luck with that because you, in your "I can't let the witch win or I will be embarrassed" short-term mentality just helped elect a guy that has consistently raised taxes in his limited time in office - oh, and put his buddies into newly created +$100,000 positions.

And I need to get to a shrink?

Bend over...you'll be paying for a lot more of these "sweetheart" taxes over the next few years.
