I said this on AGS about 5 years ago.

Climate policy has almost nothing to do anymore with environmental protection, says the German economist and IPCC official Ottmar Edenhofer. The next world climate summit in Cancun is actually an economy summit during which the distribution of the world's resources will be negotiated.

let the games begin

There's a financial motive behind everything political....
I'm just not interested in pretending that both sides of this argument aren't for sale
Because both sides are... and the truth lies lost somewhere in the middle

Whatever, 99% of the world's leading experts agree human activity is casusing global warming. Jesus christ....

* the remaining 1% work for BP, Tyson Foods or the American Republican Party.

No, Jesse Ventura doesn't believe it either. According to Jesse, the rich oil companies can still drill and burn fossil fuels if they just pay more for algore carbon credits. Still pumping the same or more CO2 into the atmosphere, but telling the general population the buying of the carbon credits is cleaning up the atmosphere. Anyway money talks, D1B is a pimp for the algore side of the dollar wars.

That's a big NEG-A-TORY there, Parrotbreath. Your so-called "consensus" has been revealed as THE SCAM! Attempting to convert a hypothesis into fact via chant may work in your cannabis-smoke-filled living room, but in the real world, science talks; utopian politicism walks.
Go back to meditating about the existence of God and leave science and policy to mature folks who have developed the self-discipline to use logic and fact to lead our world.

Wait, what was I thinking. A healthy environment has no value. Only "economic" progress does. Right tman?

The algore contingent wasn't trying to clean up the environment, just trying to clean up at the bank.
And yes a clean environment is important.

Actually, the supposed revealing of the Scam was the real scam.

Rumor Control:
First of all - a large majority of scientists believe that elevated CO2 count in our atmosphere are indeed causing unusual changes in weather patterns and regional temperature variations... which are largely agreed to be detrimental to life as we know it - key distinction - Life as "WE" know it... The Earth is FINE - We're not KILLING the Earth
The changes are only making it harder on Natural Land Ecosystems and Ocean Dwelling Ecosystems
There are indeed small amounts if dissent in the rank and file of the scientific community
Mostly because of abuse - where bogus findings were used to get grant money and guys like AL Gore spoke about things that he knew nothing about and espoused fiction as fact and opinion as truth
There is money to be made on both sides of this debate - that cannot be argued - but it is true that a majority of Scientists believe that elevated CO2 counts in the atmosphere are detrimental (Period)
The Strata record and fossil record indicate that the Earth maintains a natural carbon balance...
When concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) are upset or moved from the ground to the atmosphere the system gradually returns to its natural state. This natural readjustment works slowly, compared to the rapid rate at which humans are moving carbon into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. The Earths Natural carbon removal can't keep pace, so the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increases. This is not great news... but it's happened before and the Earth is still here
but 95% of present life forms will need to change or adapt to survive long term based on the speed of CO2 variation and count increase rates
again - this is not unusual - it's happened before (see KT Boundary) but sh!t will change indeed...
