Tax Cut Extention Bill rejected. This should be interesting.
WASHINGTON – House Democrats voted Thursday to reject President Barack Obama's tax deal with Republicans in its current form, but it was unclear how significantly the package might need to be changed.
By voice vote in a closed caucus meeting, Democrats passed a resolution saying the tax package should not come to the House floor for consideration as written, even though no formal House bill has been drafted. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., introduced the resolution.
Said Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas: "If it's take it or leave it, we'll leave it."

The spanking he's getting from both sides of the aisle doesn't bode well for '12.

In January the House will be controlled by the R's and they will pass it. The D's will still control the Senate but they will pass it. So Nancy gives us the finger for a month instead of trying to get credit for something that will happen anyway.

I predict the tax bill will be brought to the House floor for a vote and that there will be at least 218 votes to pass it. Heck, Clinton needed GOP help to pass welfare reform against the wishes of far-left Dems. The caucus vote was solely to protect the Dems' suppurating left flank in an empty "showcase" gesture.

I thought the timing issue was that the tax cuts expire on 12/31 - to be followed by a jolt to the economy if nothing's done.
Also from a timing perspective, if Obama waits for the Conks to be seated, then they have increased leverage to knock out some the things they don't want, such as the welfare, er, unemployment benefits extension, right?

As I remember it, the GOP shoved the welfare reform bill down Clinton's throat. He had no intention of reforming welfare until the Dems lost the House and Senate in '94.
