DeMint calls votes before Christmas 'sacrilegious'

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) called Democrats' push to force through an arms control treaty and an omnibus spending bill right before Christmas "sacrilegious," and warned he'd draw the process out to wage his objections.
"You can't jam a major arms control treaty right before Christmas," he told POLITICO. "What's going on here is just wrong. This is the most sacred holiday for Christians. They did the same thing last year - they kept everybody here until (Christmas Eve) to force something down everybody's throat. I think Americans are sick of this."
DeMint has demanded a full reading of the treaty, a process that, ironically, will push the chance for a vote closer to Christmas.

Seriously, is it a prerequisite in SC that all your politicians are cartoon characters?
Don't like the voting schedule, then fokking retire....

no shit.
So DeMint, are you pushing for a nationally mandated month-long holiday for ALL AMERICANS?
Paid for by the Federal Government?
If not, shut the fuck up and work like the rest of us.

It sure has seemed like it recently, but I don't think we have a monopoly on cartoon character politicians. The Alvin Green fiasco was quite a Donk black eye (pun intended)

Actually, DeMint has a point.
Congress has no business ramming through several major pieces of legislation in a lame duck session. Period. That treaty alone requires study, because the Russkies are trying to pull a fast one with linkage to missile defenses. The omnibus spending bill is a laughingstock of pork. All the exiting Senators want one last shot at earmarks before the new brigade is sworn in. We also have the tax bill, the immigration bill, and God knows what else. Ain't anyone listening to the voters? Screw you, Harry Reid: America will take its time.

Then they should swear in the newly elected people immediately, instead of waiting two months.

Of course we wouldn't want members of Congress to vote on this shit before the election when that vote could be used against them......
Too bad the guy that shot at the school board didn't walk into Congress and start shooting. He might've hit one or two those dipshits...

So amend the Constitution already.

You are the one defending DeMint. If DeMint doesn't want to follow the Consitution, the he should resign

The constitution prohibits lame duck action?
Nice fail.

What's the point of a "lame duck" session anyways? And just who determines what a "major piece of legislation" is in the first place? This isn't a new concept, BOTH parties have been doing this for generations, so what else is new?
"And the (political) world keeps on spinnin'..."

Nice try, "smart" guy. Read Yale Law professor Bruce Ackerman's 11/12/10 piece in the
Washington Post if you want to learn a thing or two about the 20th Amendment. "It is uttterly undemocratic for repudiated representatives to legislate in the name of the American people." And Ackerman is a progressive.

The Founding Fathers REQUIRED a lame duck session. The Founding Fathers put a FOUR month gap between election and new term.
The 20th Amendment shortened that gap, and eliminated the requirement for a lame duck session.
The Constitutional Term for a Congressman goes to January 3rd. They WERE ELECTED TO SERVE UNTIL THEN.

As a conservative, I gotta agree with DBack on this one. If the constitutionally mandated term is until Jan 3, they should pass legislation (ie; do their job) up to that date. Or we need to amend the constitution to instruct terms begin day after election & end day of election.
But my bigger issue is with DeMint saying it's "sacreligious" to work up until Christmas. Does that mean our soldiers, emergency & public safety personnel, etc who work on Christmas are godless heathens? Tell you what DeMint....I'll worry about congress having to work up to Christmas Eve right after I see the last soldier serving in Iraq & Afghanistan spending Christmas Day with their family stateside. Until then, shut the fok up and do your job. What a fokking moron....
