Maybe so, but if 6 of them (well, 3 of them) didn't vote to end the filibuster, you'd still have DADT...
This should've been taken care of 2 years ago...

2 years ago? When Bush was President? Couldn't really imagine him signing the bill... he'd just sit on it till he left office.

The repeal of DADT has now been passed in the Senate, 65-31. Congratulations, Jon!

Big congratulations to all of those brave enough to serve who now don't have to lie to the country they want to fight for.
Big congratulations to Patrick Murphy (D-PA) for whom this has been a four year crusade - I was with him in 2006 when he promised at the HRC national convention that if he were in Congress, he would make this happen (he got a 2 minute standing ovation)... glad to see he was able to keep his word.

It is a tragedy that the Village People are now too old to actually be "In The Navy".

Lieberman is putting an amendment for the 2011 Defense Authorization Act Wednesday that will repeal U.S.C. 10 625, making sodomy in the military o.k.

Harry Reid’s first tweet after ‘don’t ask’ repeal was to Lady Gaga
Yahoo ^ | 12-20-10 | Holly Bailey
On Saturday, Reid twice messaged the pop star on Twitter — shortly before the Senate voted to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy banning gays from serving openly in the military and immediately after. In fact, his first Twitter message after the vote was to Gaga, who had previously lobbied him and other senators via Twitter to overturn the controversial policy.
"We did it! DADT is a thing of the past," Reid wrote to Gaga.

Obama told the emotional story of Lloyd Corwin, a member of Patton's third army who was injured during the Battle of the Bulge. Corwin tumbled 40 feet down the slope of an icy ravine and was left to die. But one soldier scaled down the icy slope and risked his own life amidst the gunfire all in an attempt to save his friend.
That man was Andy Lee, and four decades after the war, he admitted to Corwin that he was gay. Corwin didn't find that revelation important, Obama said.

Why this was ever an issue is beyond me. Between AD (Active Duty) and NG (National Guard) time I served 21 years in the Army. I find most people in my state and a few others are clueless when it comes to any military topics.
During my service time I served with and had under my chain-of-command many different soldiers from many different backgrounds. Were some of them homosexuals? Yeah probably. Did I ever have a problem with that? Nope. I judged my soldeirs on their technical and tactical proficiency as well as their military bearing and attention to details and orders. If they failed in any of the above they were counseled about it. Sexual orientation never played into it.
If people are willing to step forward and volunteer to serve honorably in this country's military then I salute them.
End Of Mission.

As long as they are willing to put some lead down range, I am fine with anyone serving. Like Cobblestone said above, I am also sure I served with some gay people and that was never an issue for me. I only cared that they did their job and kept their nose clean.

DADT served its purpose as a bridge between an era of bigotry and today. I'm glad it's over with.
Now hopefully the gays won't start asking for reparations.

I could actually document exactly on a Federal and State Level how much the ban on gay marriage has cost me over the years in extra taxes.
Of course, in the spirit of Brotherly Love, I'd drop all that if I could get full equality today
