Insurance Company Ripping Off Servicemembers

California sued a company for bilking servicemembers out of $$. The idea (one I've been part of before) was an insurance policy with some of the $$ shunted to a savings account. The company illegally took that $$ for themselves. They agreed to pay it back and settle for a large (not large enough, IMO) fine IOT keep their license.

All the more reason for military personnel and retirees to stick with USAA for all of their insurances.

USAA had a sweet year end distribution this year! Love 'em. Member since '96, before they opened it up to the enlisted riff raff. ;)

My Dad is retired Secret Service, I got on USAA back in 1994. Car and Home owner insurance. I've never had any problems with them. Greatest insurance company ever!

They even used to send out checks at the end of good years.

That's what I alluded to. I got a nice check this year, the first I recall in several years. All those hurricanes and floods in the middle of the last decade (back when App State was good) put a bit of a hurting on them I think, and now it's back to the good old days. :thumb:

I believe it's called the Subscriber Savings Account. They sent me an email a couple of weeks ago asking if I wanted check or direct deposit. IIRC, it was like $200-$300.

You may want to call them, Andrew.

Same here. It was the biggest check I've ever gotten from them since I've been a member.

You also cannot beat their rates for the amount of coverage you get. I might add that their customer service is the best I have ever dealt with.

I need to look into these guys, my daughter loves them. My biggest problem is insurance is like a dentist, always painful to deal with.

That's a big, big part of it. They are impeccable. If I ever own a business with a significant customer service arm, I know where the first field trip will be.

I bet you guys wish you could jerk off the USAA customer service reps, huh? Come on, admit it!

I sure do, but I'm probably the most honest person here. Andy and Cobblestone would never admit it.

When they opened it up to all military ever last year (maybe earlier this year) we got my parents, reluctantly, to switch. They were with a local bank and State Farm for insurance. Now they're raving about USAA. It's a leap of faith for some people to convert to a virtual bank, but once they're comfortable with it they rock and roll.

Things I really dig:
No-fee checking
All ATM surcharges reimbursed 100% (10 withdrawals per month)
USAA Deposit Mobile app on my smartphone allows me to deposit any check instantly with a picture - fucking rocks!
All the various insurances are rock solid and inexpensive

I only deal with female USAA customer service reps. They all seem to have southern/texan accents. So, I'm completely down for diddling.

Dude, they've been opened to all military for quite some time now. I first got USAA because my father was a Navy officer. Back then it was for military officers and their families. However, I can remember when I was an E-6 receiving info from them that they were opened to both officers and enlisted. I don't recall the year but I retired as an E-7 and I've been retired for about 5 years now.

That's not true. My father was enlisted Army in Vietnam and was not eligible until the past year or so. I joined when they were officer only. They opened it up to active enlisted about fifteen years or so ago. Then more recently, they started going back in time to allow enlisted folks who weren't eligible when they served.

Jeez. I've never seen people so in love with an insurance company before. Is it better than GEICO?
