A lefty hang wringing article for sure, but it poses a good question.

Has anybody read it? Why is it selling so well.

My guess is that over the next couple of decades the re-imaging campaign of George W. Bush will have him seated at the right hand of the gipper in conk mythology.

War Room Why are Bush's book sales so great?
By Alex Pareene

According to Crown Publishing Group, George W. Bush's lightly plagiarized memoir "Decision Points" has already sold more than 2 million copies -- counting e-books -- since it went on sale in November. That's a lot! As Glynnis MacNicol points out, that's almost as much as Bill Clinton's book has sold since it was released six years ago.

But ... why? Clinton left office with good approval ratings and was largely remembered fondly, especially as the Bush years dragged to their depressing end. Bill's also smart and articulate, and his administration's scandals tended to be more personal in nature than Bush's. In addition to being an awful communicator, Bush is famously reticent to reflect on his decisions, and in his book he's obviously relying on other people's written accounts of his presidency, which is ... a bit odd, to say the least...

I clicked on the link, but I got an ad from the New York Times that refused to go away. :jack:

Anyway, I neither requested nor received a copy for Christmas! Politicians' books usually suck. I learned my lesson with Jimmy Carter's ill-titled Why Not the Best?

Just started Unbroken.

Bookshelf ornaments, like dback says. And it isn't just conks. I'm pretty sure the same goes for books like "it takes a village" and "the audacity of hope", just not in quite as many homes.

Right you are, TTBF!

So how many books will Palin have to write before she wears out her welcome? :? I don't know what's worse: the book by a national politician "on the make," or one by an ex-President seeking to whitewash everything.

IMO the ones that are "on the make" are much much worse. most of them haven't done a damn thing worthy of a book - and the "ideas" they present aren't anything that couldn't be (and usually are) summarized as bullet points on their campaign websites.

at least a retired pol attempting to whitewash has events of consequence to gloss over and dime store "regrets about things they weren't able to accomplish" - usually there is a nugget or two that makes for a good blurb (much like a movie trailer that shows the best parts, now you don't have to waste the time watching/reading the whole thing)

Why is GWB looking so much better now than he did when he left office?

One need look no further than the current occupant of the White house for the answer. There are loads of bad presidents in history who would look a lot better followed by an Obama or a Carter.

Considering the fucked up wasteland he was left with after a shithead republican ruined us....

:ohno: Obama is doing a fine job according to everyone, except the tea bagger fucks. They would take shots at and convert to islam if jesus friggin christ was president, and a democrat.

Tea Baggers - Army of racist retards controlled by the religious right, high profit media hatemonger machines (Palin, FOX, Rush...), gun and ammo manufactureres, NASCAR and trans fat food producers/big fast food - or anyone or thing that profits from hatred, mass poverty, paranoia and discontent.
