Yeah, Obama can't vacation to save his ass! Goes to the right trendy places -- Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii, etc. -- but can't relax for scheit, and his golf swing sucks.

Now the Bushes, THEY knew how to vacation!

Why does the governor need to be in NJ to oversee snow removal? What's he going to do, drive a snowplow himself?

He's a politician, thus capable of spewing enough hot air to melt any amount of snow. ;)

There hasn't been anything warm about Orlando since Sunday. Lows in the mid 20's at the blueballs compound the last three mornings and highs in the 40's and low 50's until today when the wind turned and it got into the upper 60's.

Bad stuff for the citrus and fern farmers... also blueballs is getting sick and frigging tired of having to cover his landscape plants, cover the well tank and pipes, water softener, drip an outside faucet, and run the pool pump all night.

This is supposed to be Florida damnit!!!!!

no problem with a governor being on vacation... but I do find a problem with both he and the lt gov vacationing at the same time, and both refusing to return to the state to oversee the state of emergency there.

Ughh....if your state is in a declared state of emergency you should get your ass on a plane home immediately.

I am actually confused why the Governor needs to name an acting Governor when he is on vacation. This day and age, he could easily do whatever is needed from Florida. Seems like an outdated law.

Agreed. I recall I believe early in 2005 maybe, there were a group of potential terrorists or something being looked for and there was belief they were in Massachusetts... During this the National Governors Association was having their annual meeting somewhere. Governor Romney left the meeting and returned to Massachusetts... at the same time New Hampshire Governor John Lynch also returned home to be ready to assist Massachusetts if needed. Thats the way Governors should respond.

Oxymoron: Chris Christie riding It's A Small World

Not familiar enough with New Jersey to really know what Christie should have or should not have been doing, but since when is the governor responsible for snow removal? If I have a problem with my street being plowed, I call my township, who is actually responsible for that job. I don't call the county, and I certainly would never call the governor. I understand the perception thing and all, but aren't we just trying to pin fault here for the sake of pinning fault on someone? It was a snowstorm, and not anywhere close to the biggest on record. It wasn't a terrorist attack, it wasn't an epidemic, it was some snow. Maybe Rendell is right - maybe we are becoming a nation of wussies.

I imagine he's required to sit in the middle of the boat - although how they get him in there without tipping the thing is beyond me. Now that's a video we should see on YouTube.

Only after having landed in Omaha and going underground for a night or two...

Some of it is for show - to let your constituents know that you care. Some of it is needed - when you have an emergency that spans multiple local jurisidictions, the state should be able to coordinate responses better.

Christie caused the snow. Just like Dubya caused Katrina. I think we'll see this soon:

Eh, Chris Christie hates Guido's.

That's what this is about. If he has competent staff he shouldn't have to be there.

With the airports all jammed up could he even get back?

regardless... Let's say you work for a company that has a big boss... like an owner and a lower level boss, a facility manager. These two people are the ones who are in charge of the company, there are no lower level bosses that supervise the whole company, there are divison supervisors though who handle different areas of the company. Would it make sense for both of them to go on vacation at the same time and leave the company unsupervised? When there is a Governor and Lt Governor, there never should be a time when atleast one of them isnt in the state and in charge.

Eh, in all the companies I've worked for, there always is a hierarchy for who's in charge, even when the big overall managers are all gone. So what if a Production Manager needs to oversee the whole facility - people are still expected to be doing their jobs even without their normal supervisor in place.

I can understand the anger towards Bloomberg - he's a mayor and in a city, nothing gets people riled up like garbage collection and snow removal and as mayor, he should know that. But I don't get why people are throwing Christie into the mix as well. He's not in charge of plowing the streets of Newark - he's not even in charge of the guy who's in charge of doing it. Granted, he should've made sure that there was a clear distinction of who'd be running the show on the ground in his and his Lt Gov's absence, but that's just PR. At the end of the day, Christie sitting in his office in Trenton giving press statements wouldn't have changed a thing in terms of the snow being removed. If the streets don't get plowed in Philly (and heck, they don't even make a pretense of plowing every street and they never have nor will they - people are expected to make do) then the mayor gets the grief. I've never heard people yell at Harrisburg (for those not in the know, that's the state capital) because of issues with the streets in Philly.

Does being a "wussie" include expecting a certain level of competence and customer service from government, airports, and airlines.......because I don't think that anyone in this day and age, with all of our fancy weather related technology, instant communication, etc, etc.......should have to sit on airplanes for 10 hours, be trapped in airport terminals for days on end, not receive luggage for days/weeks, and worst of all.......receive NO EXPLANATION of WTF is actually going on!!!

If what the NY Post printed today is true some of that anger will shift. And if the Post story is true, and the sanitation supervisors had their employees dragging out cleanup as a protest, not only should those supervisors be fired, but they should face manslaughter charges in the death of the newborn who died after the mother waited 9 hours for emergency responders to get to them. And they should face manslaughter charges for any other deaths that were the direct result of the streets not having been cleared in a timely manner.
