What does "limited government" look like?

Christmas Eve here we had about a 5 inch snowfall. No wind or anything, just the most beautiful Christmas Eve you can imagine. Saturday morning Christmas day came, and no city crews worked toclear any snow. Sunday the 26th came and still no city work crews were out clearing the streets. Sure as heck, bright and early Monday morning on the 27th the city trucks began their work.

As you can immagine, the townsfolk were fairly pissed. The mayor's office received numerous calls. A local newspaper picked up on the story and interviewed the mayor.

REPORTER: Mayor, what do you have to say to all the people that have expressed concern over the fact that a 5 inch snowfall was allowed to remain on your cities streets for 4 days without your city work crews making any efforts to clean the roadways and streets?

MAYOR DAN: I guess if they are so concerned about a little snowpack on the streets and roads, they could take their tea cups out there and start scooping.

REPORTER: But mayor, how different would the cities response have been in the snow was a real danger and not just an inconvenience?

MAYOR DAN: Somebody way smarter than me is gonna have to answer that. If the snow had been a clear and present public safety issue, it would not have changed the problem I have. I simply do not have adequate money in the city coffers to send my workers out on weekends, holidays, or ANY overtime.

This, boys and girls is a harbinger of what is to come. Welcome to "limited government". This is what it looks like:

Sure hope that wasn't somebodys grandparents in that car.

Bullshit! I am willing to bet the mayor has enough money in his budget to plow snow. The issue is having the wrong priorities. Snow removal is the type of thing limited government needs to be doing. How much money does this community spend on unnecessary things like swimming pools, recreation programs, arts programs, etc. Those may all be worthwhile items but should be lower on the priority level than snow removal or fire and police protection.

Come on, this is weak. 5 inches? Really? People couldn't get anywhere in 5 inches of snow? All the more reason people should be buying cars with all wheel drive. And really, what a shocker, a town didn't pay triple or 4x time to have road crews out on Christmas Day to move snow. If I was Mr. Plow I wouldn't be out working Christmas Day either.

And really, if that was my grandparents in that car, the first thing I'd say is "what the heck are you doing driving in the snow anyway? You have trouble enough in normal conditions". And then I would've called a tow truck and given the tow truck driver my grandparent's credit card information.

Come on, 5 inches of snow, really?

Following the implementation of an effective and efficient form of limited government, some former public sector employees' re-employment efforts would look like this:

Well, if it isn't the guy who disappeared for several months right after virtually every member of the board called bullshit on his claim that he was invited to join MENSA.

Welcome back, OSBF. You fucking idiot.

By the way, can you provide a link to the newspaper article? I didn't think so.

What do Reps on this board have to do with a municipality that is in the red? AFAIK, 99% of states, counties and cities have had to cut their spending. Sounds like a bitter mayor and a ficticious "newspaper" to me.

This isn't a good way to "refudiate" an attack on your credibility. Simple solution, do you have access to a scanner?

You're a fvcking dork. Maybe if you truly understood what is meant by limited government you wouldn't look like such a cockmonkey on a public message board.

Maybe you can understand this:

Limited government means that the government is LIMITED to making sure that we have a strong national defense, LIMITED to making sure that the national infrastructure is safe and sound, and LIMITED to making sure the snow is off the fvcking roads.

This is no different from the old, tired, "starving schoolchildren" shit that you also probably subscribe to.

OSBF, my home town is 800 people, and the paper from our town has a website, kind of. You can get the latest newspaper from our town, and many others, online at this site http://www.smalltownpapers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That site carries papers from hundreds of small towns that don't have their own website for their paper

Here is the website for the paper out of the county seed of Lyon County - The Lyon Counter Reporter http://www.lyoncountyreporter.com/pages/?cat=46" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Rock Rapids is all of 2,400 people.

Hey, not drawing conclusions about the ASU crowd from the few on this board.

I DO draw conclusions about the ASU crowd when I'm in Boone at the Black Cat trying to eat a burrito and the petruli oil is stifling me, though.
