What is the Dismal Brothers' Major Malfunction?

Humor, debate, pedagogy, satire, analysis and entertainment all have a place in civil discourse. Do the posts of d1b and his brother contribute in some positive fashion to the quality of discourse in this political forum? If so, what is it? Is a modicum of civility and integrity too much to ask?

Integrity and civility are not too much to ask for, and in my opinion are demonstrated at least to some degree by the vast majority of political posters on cs.com.

In stark contrast, the vast majority of posts in the political forum by the dismal brothers are hateful, irrational, disingenuous, uninformed, or a combination of all of the above. The occasional exception proves the rule. The resulting net value-add is less than zero.

What is your opinion? Do d1b and cap'n cat make a net positive contribution to the poli board? What is the value-add of the dismal brothers in the political forum at cs.com?

I apologize for the limited choices in the accompanying poll. If you don't like the choices, don't vote.

No shit. This isn't a church picnic, native, it's a football message board.

I like them - they are who we thought they were - it's all part of our free discourse and of course why CS is a pleasant departure from AGS (and this coming from an AGS mod)...

Of course, I would respect them a lot more if one or both were to start a thread entitled "F Muhammed"...

When the authorities come on the site asking questions like "did you think they were capable of such a crime"...what will you say?

Was that referring to the brothers or Nate?

Kalm's rules of message boards:

Rule #1: Never take anything anyone says on a message board seriously.

Rule #2: YOU NEVER take anything anyone says on a message board seriously.

They are of high value to the board. Especially when D fits in a nice little Hunter S. Thomsonesque riff like his first post in this thread. :thumb:

Your point is well taken, Rob, but from another thread...
Rob Iola wrote: ...If you label people voting Republican (I'm assuming you're referring to R's as "dickhead heros") as poor white violent stupid gun totin scum, then you're engaging in the same rhetoric as those very poor white violent stupid gun totin scum.

It matters D, it matters. Your language speaks of deep-seated hatred.

Stop telling everyone you disagree with to **** off.
...Which is my point exactly!

I have tried not to take their bait, not to respond in kind, and instead offered a different kind of response to their incessant provocations. I have not asked or even suggested that the dismal brothers be banned, only offered my opinion as to their contributions to the board.

Note that lack of poll popularity has never stopped them before!

There is lots of clever and entertaining repartee on cs.com, from all across the political spectrum, but not from the dismal brothers. :ohno: The only good thing I can say about them is that they have a few decent die-hard friends who stick up for them, and in my book, that really counts for something! :thumb:

Lighten up Francis. I've had "run ins" with D1b but it's never serious. It's all in jest.

Remember, you CAN step away from the computer. :twocents:

Reminds me of the summer I took my kids and their cheap bamboo poles to a pond that had not been fished for probably a decade. It was June, the grasshoppers were everywhere, and they made great bait. The fish, even with their extremely limited mental capacity, were conditioned to strike immediately at the bait. Strike they did, as soon as the grasshoppers hit the water!

The kids came back with strings of carp from as high as they could lift their little arms all the way to the ground. What a great memory!

Where would the world be without fish? And grasshoppers?
