The good old USA is now employing the Homeland Security Assests to control the internet. Its just one of many afronts to personal freedom perpetuated by the progressive left now controling the white house.

The federal government has seized the Web addresses of 10 websites that allegedly live stream sporting and pay-per-view events online, shutting them down just days before one of the biggest televised sporting events of the year: the Super Bowl.

The websites that were shutdown provide links but not content to pay per view events.

“This swift action by our Homeland Security Investigations New York special agents and analysts sends a clear message to website operators who mistakenly believe it’s worth the risk to take copyrighted programming and portray it as their own,” Morton said. “We will continue to aggressively investigate this type of crime with our law enforcement partners.”

“The illegal streaming of professional sporting events over the Internet deals a financial body blow to the leagues and broadcasters, who are forced to pass their losses off to fans by raising prices for tickets and pay-per-view events,” said Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney in Manhattan.

Thats a lie. If it were true prices should now drop. It is simply a monopoly influencing the federal government to use the homeland security powers, intended to curtail terrorism, in the persuit of private enterpise.

It is the Department of Homeland Security's job to protect intellectual property of US Companies. The mission of the department isnt solely to protect against terrorism, since the department has been created many lower departments have been assigned to them including ICE which is the section of Homeland Security shutting down the websites.

It is the Department of Homeland Security's job to protect intellectual property of US Companies. The mission of the department isnt solely to protect against terrorism, since the department has been created many lower departments have been assigned to them including ICE which is the section of Homeland Security shutting down the websites.

That is surprising. I would think that the Dept of Commerce would have the mandate to protect intellectual property. Seems like QUITE a reach for DHS to be doing this. If ICE is in fact doing this, it is even less appropriate, since ICE means Immigration and Customs Enforcement. If there is ANY agency under DHS less appropriate to be dealing with protecting intellectual property than ICE, I don't know what it is. Considering the deplorable state of immigration law in the US, I'd say that ICE has much better things to do. The idea that a customs agency should deal with this might work, but since the aggrieved parties are all US companies, I do not see where customs would come into play.

The FBI already deals with this issue, since theft of intellectual property is a crime. That's why you see the FBI warning on all your DVDs (except the pirated ones... heh heh). FBI is not known for just giving up turf like that, so I'd be curious to see how ICE got into this mix.

I'd like to see the portion of the DHS charter that puts Internet piracy under its umbrella. Not saying it doesn't exist, but I find that to be quite incredible. Have you seen it? Can you post it?

Just a few hours ago channel surfing had a link up for their new site and other links to continuing news about this. Its now been replaced by the government warnings.

Homeland security will eventually be entering all of our houses looking for terrorists activities. They cant profile so they must inspect everyones home. Thats the point being made at the airports while they leave our boarders open.

I don't care one tiny bit about this situation - I was simply making an observation about what is very likely the situation - as opposed to some left wing dark conspiracy... However I'm not ruling that out either but I think it’s more like well funded lobby work being done here.
