I have no problem if they want to ban them from schools. When I was in school in Manchester, NH all those kinds of things were banned... I would assume they still are. Get caught with one, have it taken away and a parent had to go and get it back.

However... taking a students cell phone and searching it is a violation of the students right to privacy... and I hope a court tells them they cant do it.

How is it violating their right to privacy? If they are on school grounds - tough

in the first few days of school, students sign a great deal of paperwork, one of these papers that they MUST sign agree that they can be searched if needed to....not to mention there's state law too

Once again, you prove yourself to be a simpleton.

"Wah...I want to be able to text my friends...because beng in touch with friends is sooooooooooo much 'betterer' than paying attention to things like...oh, I don't know....classes...that some of those mean and boring people say can help me have a meaningful life later on. I'll just vote to take other people's money away to give to people like me!" :dunce:

You are unemployed for a reason.

Bingo! Schools can search kids's lockers, backpacks, even their cars if they are in a school parking lot.

Ya way to go and put words in my mouth. Personally I think schools should ban cell phones, however I dont feel schools should be allowed to search the contents of someones cell phone.

Really....and you people are surprised?

These people are telling us that we can't eat transfatty acids, salt, carbonated beverages, caffine, etc...
They are telling us that you can't smoke in your car, on the street, in a park, and in some jurisdictions even in your own home (but they want to legalize pot). :shake:

This time they are trying to ban 'sexting', and now you finally have something to say.... #jack

Yay "progressivism".

Stupid abstinence nuts! Don't they know kids are going to do this no matter what you say about it? What we need to do is empower kids with knowledge to ensure that any sexting they do is in such a way as to not ultimately result in embarrassment or the spread of STDs and pregnancy!

If they have reason to suspect you have unlawful items in your car (backpack/purse/etc). You don't have to let them search & students don't have to consent to the search of the phone (both cases will be searched either way & let courts decide the validity of the search later on).....the police will be called & search warrant obtained if necessary to search your personal belongings...this is no different than having your computer bag searched at work by employer. If that offends you, then quit the job. And if students are offended, either drop out of school or don't bring the fokking phone to class.... :coffee:

This. And make them start wearing uniforms while we're at it.

I got to thinking more about Appa's description of Finnish underachievers being forced into the trades as opposed to continuing education in another thread. This makes perfect sense. And since teachers can no longer beat ours, if they want to get uppity than it's goodbye academia, hello welding school. The little punks need to be stripped of some of their perceived power.

Kalm, going full conk/tiger mom when it comes to disciplinary education.

Simpletonianomics - Feeling strongly enough about a subject that you start a thread using multiple emoticons to express displeasure about said subject while saving time by not actually expressing an informed opinion about said subject...then getting your panties in a bunch when someone calls you on it. :dunce:

But hey, you came back strong with the analogy about the car in the parking lot.
