My take away from the Bush years was that it was CHENEY who was the principle architect of the MASSIVE domestic spying that was initiated. Cheney was the principle force in the administration (though not alone) in pushing the PATRIOT Act... that fact alone ought to be enough...
Interested in what makes you make such a contention...

I share your concerns about the Patriot Act and for the future of the Fourth amendment, but you hold Cheney up to a higher standard that that to which you hold your domestic heroes, and to a ridiculously higher standard than the rest of the world.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:really?native wrote:If you love liberty, your hatred of Cheney is misguided.

Obama Quietly Backs Patriot Act Provisions
Inter Press Service ^ | 11.23.09 | William Fisher
NEW YORK, 23 Nov (IPS) - With the health care debate preoccupying the mainstream media, it has gone virtually unreported that the Barack Obama administration is quietly supporting renewal of provisions of the George W. Bush-era USA Patriot Act that civil libertarians say infringe on basic freedoms.
And it is reportedly doing so over the objections of some prominent Democrats.
But with the apparent approval of the Obama White House and a number of Republicans – and over the objections of liberal Senate Democrats including Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Dick Durbin of Illinois – the Senate Judiciary
Committee has voted to extend the three provisions with only minor changes.
Those provisions would leave unaltered the power of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to seize records and to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mail in the course of counterterrorism investigations.

I guess you didn't know it was Ron Paul supporters that were doing the booing.
Then you should be delighted at the freshmen Tea Party Republicans who voted against extending the Patriot Act.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:No hypocrisy... it pisses me off that Obama won't repeal it... but I understand why he won't... it's pure politics... and I don't blame him for making that calculation...
