Notice anything missing in the cell phone rating system described at http://www.walletpop.com/2011/02/14/bes ... 3%7C201809" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

Ok. What's missing is actual evaluation of the cell phones. There is nothing about the ratings having to do with the quality of the products. The ratings are a political correctness index. The three general areas upon which the ratings are based are 1) perceived impact on the health of consumers, 2) perceived impacts of each company's practices on the enviornment (such as the extent to which they contribute to "global warming"), and 3) perceived social impacts of each company's practices (considering such things as "workplace diversity").

You can see details of the rating system by going to http://www.goodguide.com/about/ratings" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and scrolling down.

So a cell phone can be a total piece of junk just as a cell phone but be at the top of the list.

you know how I know that you have nothing to worry about and that these "rankings" are not to be taking seriously? I don't know anyone with a Nokia phone, yet it's considered #1

Heaven forbid others have a conscience.

But I agree, it would be helpful to index it to performance and price.

If people want to consider where their products come from, how they are made, and what will happen to them after they are done with them, what's so wrong with that? Its up to you if you want to consider those factors in addition to how well they function (reviews of which are available a myriad of other places).

Concerns like this cross party lines as well. I've got a fairly hard-right friend who refuses to buy Christmas lights made in China because he doesn't think its right to buy Christmas light made in a place where it is essentially illegal to be Christian. Same with many other Made-in-the-USA concerns.

Ugh...
This is an example of The entire western culture is coming to an end
because of a cell phone "brand" review - John do you need a nap or something - maybe a day off

It's not a product review - it's a brand review...

But, of course, it is OK to purchase Christams gifts such as clothes, toys, appliances, etc. made by people whom the government won't allow to be saved.

What, pray tell, is the distinction between "product review" and "brand review" in this case?

As for Western Culture: To me there is no doubt that Western Culture has become obsessed with egalitarianism and preservationism to an irrational extent.

Does that mean Western Culture is coming to an end? I don't know. But I'm pretty sure it has lost touch with reality.

Really? The ever-widening gap between the wealthy and the poor would suggest otherwise. :coffee:

Also, you, of all people, commenting on losing touch with reality...priceless...

Aren't people that dress up in costumes gay for the most part?

Isn't cowboy garb a costume?

Always wondered that, about all that dust, animal sweat, cow poop, and few women.

What about Bonanza and Hop-Sing?

WTF? :|

Is this post O/T?

8-)

Wow...
Okay I'll explain this slowly - read one word at a time

Brand: Chevrolet / Coca-Cola / McDonald's
Product: Corvette / Coke Zero / Chicken McNuggets

See John... A brand vs. a product explained in a 101 fashion

In this case the ratings are limited to a narrow range of products. Nokia, for instance, makes a lot of things. In this case the reference is to its cell phones. When it says Nokia is the topped rated brand of cell phones, it is saying the cell phone products are top rated. The distinction between brand and product is moot.

How about you give me an example of a case in which I have lost touch with reality.

Once you do, it may be a while before I get back to you with a rebuttal. But I will get back to you.

How is a brand review of cell phones the coming end of Western Culture?

You're certainly in touch with your version of reality, but it's not one shared by most people.
