Tunisia and Egypt have been able to oust thier leaders. Now, Libya is undergoing the same revolution. What is your take on this? Do you think Gadhafi will vacate his position of power after 42 years?

Agreed. Some reports suggest he has fled Tripoli, which to me is a sign of weakness.

getting reliable reports out of Libya is really hard... word is he's trying to crack down and that hundreds were killed in Benghazi in the last few days... unlike in Egypt or Bahrain... there is little influence the US can have here... so it my concern is that it goes the same way as Iran's green movement...

However - with reports coming out that soldiers have defied Qaddafi... it seems more and more likely.

wait - this just in...

a group of pilots have landed Libyan planes in Malta - having refused direct orders to bomb protesters.

Navy bombardment of an area of Tripoli also reported...

Qaddafi appeared on state TV a few hours ago sound "defiant" but also "grave"

the military is reportedly tearing itself apart at the seams - Qaddafi loyalists have killed many soldiers who refused to mow down protesters...

this one is getting very, very ugly.

Freedom? Let’s wait and see what forms of governments arise from the ashes in the next few months, and then over the next decade, before we cite Arab freedom.

Just as interesting will be the impact on Arab “royalty”.

England’s royal family was smart enough to keep the massive wealth they accumulated by raping their masses over the centuries…Hell, they even have uber-liberal Travis as a fan...but it remains to be seen whether Arab royalty is smart enough to fool the people into allowing them to keep their billions.

considering Mubarak and bin Ali's assets have been frozen both domestically and in Switzerland... seems less than likely.

This is a great Post Cluck U...
Also maybe even similarities between Great Britain circa 1947 too (when they lost India)

Keep an eye on the countries where the protests are taking place that have large Shiite populations. I would venture an assumption that Iran is behind much of this and they stand to be the big winner in power and influence if Shiite majorities gain power- which ain't good for the USA's interests.

Is anyone else watching Gadaffi's speech right now?

Fucking HILARIOUS!!!

He's speaking from a damaged building, looking out a window, with a monument of a fist clutching a US jet fighter just outside the window.

Totally surreal and delusional.

but i thought if our planes entered the Gulf of Sidra that we were crossing "the line of death"...

wow - i think a lot of Libyans just had a simultaneous "wait... the emperor has no clothes on!" moment...

I find it interesting that, depending on one's source, one person's name can have at LEAST three different spellings.

What, Arabic? I'm talking spellings that English-language newspapers use. Over the years, I've seen Khaddafi, Qaddafi, and Gaddafi.
