Bad Ending To Latest Somali Pirate Episode

Apparently US forces engaged and all four American hostages were shot and killed by their captors in the most recent pirate takeover of an American yacht.

As negotiations were ongoing with the pirates for the hostages' release, gunfire was heard at about 1 a.m. ET Tuesday, U.S. Central Command said.
"As (U.S. forces) responded to the gunfire, reaching and boarding the Quest, the forces discovered all four hostages had been shot by their captors," the statement said. "Despite immediate steps to provide life-saving care, all four hostages ultimately died of their wounds."
The pirates engaged the U.S. forces on board, officials said. Two pirates were killed in the skirmish and 13 were captured and detained. Two others were already in U.S. forces custody, the statement said, and the remains of two pirates were found on board. "In total, it is believed 19 pirates were involved in the hijacking" of the vessel, Central Command said.

Sad - and really, no reason for them to have ever been there. Stupid decision to sail in those waters and they paid for it with their lives. What a waste.

Agreed. Sounds like they could have stayed pretty safe if they had stayed with their group, but decided they really had to go it alone. Very sad.

They should have told the pirates that the Bibles were dollars. They probably would have been released to the US Navy.

Yes, it is sad.....sad that once it was determined the 4 hostages had been murdered, our military took the pirates into custody.....you know, they could have sunk everyone of them cowardly bastards & nobody would have said a thing...nobody that mattered at least....glad to see our military is so politcally correct..(enter Bronco to rail against Obama in 5...4...3...2....)

Hard to feel sorry for folks who willingly place themselves in danger. The world is a big place...with a lot of places to sail that don't involve pirates who have a history of killing people.
On the other hand, it is too bad that any of the pirates were allowed to live. If you are going to allow them to live, leave them in the water a couple hundred miles form shore and see if Allah saves them.

Nope. I still say put a sign around their neck that says "PIRATE" and drop one in each of the coastal towns from a helicopter a couple thousand feet up.

Unfortunately, some liberal "leave the poor guys alone, they are just reacting to oppression " whack job sailor, or a conservative "thou shall not kill anyone for anything" whack job sailor, would leak the info to the press and all the whack jobs on both sides in this country would get their panties in a bunch.

I was thinking the same thing except for the bad publicity it would generate from the people inside our border!

My guess is that when the final story comes out, this will be a botched rescue operation.

Agree, but couldn't they have "botched" it a little more and insured these 19 pirates would never have the opportunity to stand trial.....

Seems likely, the pirates want money, not a gunfight with the Navy that they can't possibly win.
Effing bible thumpers just can't mind their own biz and now the Navy is going to take heat for it.

Wow...I must have missed where anyone said they deserved it? All anyone said is that they should have known to avoid this particular part of the ocean, given what's been happening there recently.
