Crime okay as long as it isn't as bad as other crimes

Post by SeattleGriz »

Attorney General Eric Holder essentially said the New Black Panther case was nothing because it didn't compare to what Blacks went through in the 60's.

You hear that. Raping someone should be okay since it falls short of murder.

The Attorney General seemed to take personal offense at a comment Culberson read in which former Democratic activist Bartle Bull called the incident the most serious act of voter intimidation he had witnessed in his career.

"Think about that," Holder said. "When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia—which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people," said Holder, who is black.

Holder noted that his late sister-in-law, Vivian Malone Jones, helped integrate the University of Alabama.

"To compare that kind of courage, that kind of action, and to say that the Black Panther incident wrong thought it might be somehow is greater in magnitude or is of greater concern to us, historically, I think just flies in the face of history and the facts.," Holder said with evident exasperation.

Where in there does he say crime is okay? Or that the Black Panther case is "nothing."

Sounds to me like he just doesn't agree that the Black Panther case is as severe as the voter intimidation experienced by blacks during the civil rights movement. You can disagree with that if you want... but, it's certainly not out there.

Pretty obvious by Holder's words about "His people" and the Department of Justices actions he believes it wasn't a crime. They had the 3 guys nailed and dropped the case.

When none of the defendants filed any response to the complaint or appeared in federal district court in Philadelphia to answer the suit, it appeared almost certain Justice would have prevailed by default. Instead, the department in May suddenly allowed the party and two of the three defendants to walk away. Against the third defendant, Minister King Samir Shabazz, it sought only an injunction barring him from displaying a weapon within 100 feet of a Philadelphia polling place for the next three years—action that's already illegal under existing law.

Racism is racism...there is no "reverse" about it.

But, you got it right....Holder is a racist who used his position of power to deny people their rights simply based upon their color. :ohno:

That's fokking ridiculous. I try not to get hysterical about this shit, but nothing pisses me off worse than inconsistency in the eyes of the law / courts. IMO, nothing is more damaging to a free society than the perception it's legal system is unfair in applying the laws & associated penalties. While I know this occurs, it just really disheartens me to see the #2 law enforcement official in this country, who was appointed and answers to the #1 law enforcement official of this country, be so flippant about enforcing a law they are sworn to uphold....shit like this pisses me off.... ...hope & change indeed... :coffee:

He said it was nothing by ignoring the current laws on the books. Ignoring current legislation doesn't correct past injustices.
