And it supposedly pays $40/hour.

Conservative talk radio accused of using actors as callersMarch 5, 2011

Glenn Beck
Allegations are being made, accusing conservative talk radio show hosts, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, of using paid actors to portray angry callers into their nationally syndicated programs. [Columbia Journalism Review]

Published reports suggests that the call-in shows use actors provided through Premiere On Call, a subsidiary of Premiere Radio Networks. Premiere, which is the largest radio syndicator in the country, currently offers the broadcast trinity of Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity to thousands of stations across the country.

I dont buy it.

There are way to many really pissed off people that are sick of the wasteful spending, entitlements and lazy democrats that dont pull their weight.

Why pay for something that you can get for free and you cant act like some of the genuine people that call into Limbaughs show.

I dont listen to Beck because hes a left wing plant. WAAAYYYYY to liberal for my tastes.

Another fine piece of "objective" journalism from our friends on the left coast. While that "article" didn't fail to mention Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck, however, it did fail to mention that Premiere also syndicates Jesse Jackson's radio show and the radio show radical left-wing bomb thrower Randi Rhodes hosts. I guess that minor fact didn't fit their narrative.

Most people of never heard of Randi Rhodes, and most most people are tired of hearing from Jesse Jackson.

notice how that little deflection still hasn't addressed the point of paid callers to Beck's show...

btw - really could not care less about this...

shit - you know those "ask the candidates" things they do on the radio? those callers are 90% plants from the campaigns... we jam the shit out of the lines with every volunteer/staffer/intern we've got.

If Premiere has her syndicated nationwide, enough people have heard of her.

With the way that "article" was written, one would believe that Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity were the only shows Premiere syndicates. Besides the 5 mentioned in this thread, Premiere syndicates 40+ radio other shows including Dan Patrick, Jim Rome, Ryan Seacrest, Steve Harvey, etc. This was another outstanding example of fact based "journalism" that the ignorant masses swallows whole and believes at face value. :coffee:

Relax Baldy, no need to get the vapors over this one. I'm sorry they didn't provide a fair and balanced view of who Premiere syndicates. Are you also disputing that this practice exists? Or that some of our cs bretheren are out of work and could be really good at a job like this not to mention how much they could use the money?

Hannity: "Luv you too Carpet Kitten from Spokane. You're the purrrfect example of what it means to be a Great American!

Next...Lodi California wants to discuss Sarah Baracuda's chances in 2012. What say you Superhornet?"

See? It's cs community service announcement. It's just really super duper important for me that this doesn't bother you through the night. :kisswink:

Vapors?

I don't listen to any of them so I couldn't care less if it happens or not. My family has been in radio since before I was born and I know how large Premiere is. Before I got halfway through the first paragraph I knew what a piece of shit the article was. A perfect plate of meat-n-potatoes for the ill informed to salivate over and maybe post on a message board somewhere.

Again, aside from not identifying liberal shows that Premiere Syndicates what else are you disputing about the article? I don't know buddy, you seem quite upset over this one. You gonna be OK? :thumb:

It's not that the article didn't list the liberals. It's the fact that Premiere syndicates about 50 radio shows, but the article threw the accusations to only three.

Between laughing my ass off at the Donks in Wisconsin, and you being one of the people who fell for for that horribly biased article, I don't have the time to be upset. :thumb:

Still avoiding the whole point that this practice exists. But you're right, they should have at least indicated the possibility that Dan Patrick could be employing call in actors to help make his points more valid. :dunce:

I know this was probably a really long article for you to consume, but I got the point that Premiere is a large radio company on first blush. I've long suspected this practice exists, thought it funny, and TTBF pointed out that both sides do it. :coffee:

You're ability to deflect while backpeddling is commendable though. :thumb:

So, what part of, "I don't listen to any of them, so I couldn't care less if it happens or not", did you not understand? :dunce:

Reading comprehension is fundamental in this exercise. In the past hour or so, you're now 0-5 with 5 K's. You might want to consider calling it a night. :kisswink:

No, but I bet you drool whenever a bell rings.

One more time and I'll type it a little slower for you. I couldn't care less about alleged "plants" who call into radio shows. Every response I have made in this thread has been about the "author" of this article leaving out crucial information in order to produce a bias. Is it really that difficult for you to understand, or is playing dumb your natural reflex?

I don't quite buy this.

Political candidates have more to gain from jamming phone lines with their own people. They are running for public office and need to get a message out, as well as make the candidate look good. It makes sense.

As for people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, I do not see the motivation to go through the trouble. They are already nationally known, their messages are known. Plus, radio show hosts like Rush Limbaugh have call screeners to weed out the people they don't want (some surreptitiously get through) and I find it hard to believe that there is somehow a shortage of angry stay-at-home dads and OTR truck drivers calling in. Just doesn't pass the smell test.

because screening calls is a lot of work, for one thing you have to cut loose 5 or more for every one who makes it on the air... so, to ensure the conversation turns the way the host wants - to ensure that topics are brought up that the host wants brought up... you hire ringers.

not surprising really - they're part of the show in their own way - but I can assure you that none of this is far fetched or all too terribly surprising...

I am just basing my supposition on what seems plausible. Not having ever worked in or around this industry, I am not qualified to make a hard judgment one way or the other.
