A massive 8.9-magnitude quake hit northeast Japan on Friday, causing dozens of deaths, more than 80 fires, and a 10-meter (33-ft) tsunami along parts of the country's coastline. Homes were swept away and damage is extensive.

Forgive me for being picky, but why is this in the poli forum? :?:

1. There is already a thread in the discussion forum.
2. The fault lies off the coast of Japan, not with George W. Bush. ;)

We need to put earthquakes in concentration camps and bomb the ocean for their involvement in these terrorist tsunami attacks. Additionally, we need to impose sanctions on tornados for attacking innocent citizens.

Earthquakes and tsunamis are victims of capitalism burning of fossil fuels and changing the composition of atmosphere, which in turn creates global warming and melts glaciers causing the volume and mass of glaciers to decline and increase the volume and mass of the oceans. This increased mass of the oceans, coupled with the weakening of the earths crust due to extraction of oil, gas and minerals by multi-national corporations in turn causes increased stress on sub-oceanic fault lines causing underwater earth quakes and tsunamis which are there for the helpless victims of the privileged life styles of middle aged, white capitalistic pigs.

There its political.

The hysterics on Democratic Underground about the nuclear plant are comical.

Meanwhile, not a word about the oil refinery on fire that IS causing lots of health related problems...

the hysterics in the media in general about it are hilarious.

"fears are high" and yet if they reported the FACTS fear wouldn't be high. the risks are decreasing as time passes - the explosion didn't damage the reactors... and yet you have to get several graphs in to any American story before you get that point. NHK on the other hand is reporting much more accurately.

Well, they've resorted to what is basically, for lack of a better term, the nuclear option. Flooding the reactor w/seawater to try to prevent a meltdown:

They may never have a truly accurate headcount of the dead: now 10,000 and counting. They just keep washing up on shore by the dozens. Very sad.

Regardless what the number reported is I will firmly believe the number missing/dead will push 30K, if not more.
