Protesters who marched at the home of Wisconsin state senator Randy Hopper (R-Fond du Lac) were met with something of a surprise on Saturday. Mrs. Hopper appeared at the door and informed them that Sen. Hopper was no longer in residence at this address, but now lives in Madison, WI with his 25-year-old mistress.

Blogging Blue reports that the conservative Republican's much-younger new flame is currently employed as a lobbyist for right-wing advocacy group Persuasion Partners, Inc., but was previously a state senate staffer who worked on the Senate Economic Development Committee alongside Mr. Hopper. Her bio has been scrubbed from the Persuasion Partners' website, but a screen-grab is available here.

Sen. Hopper has worked closely with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to implement the state's new anti-labor laws and enact policies favorable to the interests of big business. Like Walker, Hopper is one of the Republican politiciansnamed in a massive recall effort spearheaded by Wisconsin Democrats.

According to Wisconsin law, state elected officials who have served at least one year of their current term are eligible for recall by voters. Hopper was elected state senator for district 18 in the fall of 2008, making him eligible for recall, whereas Governor Walker will not be eligible until 2012.

Blogging Blue also reports that Mrs. Hopper intends to sign the recall petition against her husband. The petition has already been signed by the family's maid.

Oops.

And if he doesn't live in the district, isn't he ineligible to serve?

His name is on the title, I'm guessing. That's all it takes, just ask Emmanuel in Chicago.

he walked out on his wife with a 25 year old lobbyist, my guess is there is no intent to return.

Not really.
Wisconsin is a big state. I bet lots of elected officials rent apartments in Madison while in session. They do in Annapolis.

Possibly, but as I told KY in a different thread if it was a Donk that did this you'd be defending it somehow....much like Kerry was defended during this fiasco.

I will hold off until pictures emerge of the wife and the lobbyist until I pass judgement on his intent.

Or Tom Harkin of Iowa.

Yep, that's the house of a multi millionaire and his wife.

1) Is the maid a legal citizen?
2) Is the mistress hot?
3) Is the maid hot?

There are currently 20 recall efforts underway in Wisconsin, 10 against democrats and 10 against republicans.

No - instate labor is leading the recall efforts against the Republicans. Out-of-state republican money is paying for the recall efforts against the Democrats

Well, truth be told, it's probably the out of state people that want to make sure that Wisconsin Democrats don't come and camp out in their state during their next AWOL period. Just saying.

Thanks for clarifying. But, if the Dems win the recalls, and the Wisconsin government goes broke, won't the Dems be out of state money, too?

There are many ways to balance the budget. Walker's aim is to destroy unions - has nothing to do with budgets. The Public Unions offered many concessions - all rejected by Walker.

Not a problem...breaking public unions. It should have been done a long time ago.

Agree.

I guess people care who he's fucking? I don't, just as I didn't care who Milk was fucking or if it was his partner and so forth.

I can totally see why the wife is signing the petition but at least they correctly referred to her as the maid at one point in the story. :thumb:

Not true, Illinois was happy to have legislators from both Indiana and Wisconsin. After exporting jobs with taxes, instability, etc., Illinois was happy to finally import something. :D

Jon, do you really think that the national/international unions aren't providing any funds for these efforts?

I am sure that they are. But most of the work/funds is local.

Your blind faith that one side is good and pure and the other side is patently evil is cute and naive. I prefer to operate from the model that they're both pretty unsavory and go from there. :thumb:
