The financial implications for students are significant. In-state tuition is $8,416 annually, and out-of-state students pay $24,831 a year.

The measure has an estimated cost of about $800,000 in 2014, $1.6 million in 2015 and $3.5 million in 2016.

So yeah, this is pretty sweet. If one of my sons, who will have spent their entire lives growing up less than a hundred miles from College Park as US citizens, decide they want to go to U of MD, I'll be forking out triple what Paco, who jumped the fence three years prior, will have to for his illegal kid.

And to be fair, they're not alone. California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Washington do the same or similar.

I don't really give a fuck if they're liberal or conservative. We should be spending the money on plane fare back to Guatemala instead of educating criminals with our taxes.

Issue will probably be settled in the Supreme Court at some point... there's a federal prohibition against giving illegals education benefits... but, it's unclear whether instate tuition is under that.

This is one of those issues I love where normally "states rights" type people are against states rights and "federal supremacy" types are against federal supremacy.

If it's in something like Engineering, Math, Biology, Physics, etc., I wouldn't actually mind. As long as they agree to stay in the United States, use their education to benefit the country, don't commit a crime, and work to become a US Citizens, then I'm for it. Just don't give them in-state tuition for something like art or English or physical education (not that those aren't great majors).

I wasn't talking about you. Just talking in general.

And I'll add that while I bet this initiative will have a net positive ROI, I still firmly believe that we should deport them shortly after they submit their applications. Maybe wait three years so you can round up four classes worth of applicant/students all at once.

I have no problem with states doing this.



When they do, they should be cut off from all Federal money permanently. Not one dime of tax payers dollars should go to states that do this kind of irrational racist bullsh*t.

I wonder how much federal money California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Maryland get every year.

If those mexicans are willing to pay $8 grand to learn how to cut grass, pick oranges, and make hotel beds better then I say let 'em.

I dont care if people think Im racist, I know who I am and how I treat people and my opinion is the only one that matters to me. That label only works if you enable it.

If I had to wear a t-shirt that said Racist on it, to work everyday to FOLLOW THE FU*KING LAW and deport illegal aliens! Then so be it. (I would just write the cost of the shirt off on my taxes)

Only problem I have with this is that once they go to community college and their two years of College Park/Towson/Salisbury/Frostburg education, they are still illegal and can't get a job, so WTF?

Illegal entry is a misdemeanor. Working without documentation is a misdemeanor... though, there are efforts to make both working illegally or hiring an illegal a felony.

Former NC Gov. Mike Easley tried this shit with Communinty Colleges & had the shit rammed back down his throat (even AFTER the NC AG informed him this was illegal by NC state law). Shouldn't come as a shocker since Easley is now a convicted felon himself....criminals looking out for other criminals I guess....

I told my daughter, who wanted to go to UMD as an out of state student we couldn't afford it and she would need to go instate. Now if I can just figure out how to make her illegal, maybe she can transfer...

Why would anyone want to go to UM out of state? Shoot, I'm planning on moving in the next three years just so it's not my daughter's major state school. I was over in College Park last weekend... what a shithole.

Maryland's campus is pretty nice, although very large. Route 1/College Park is a shithole.
