what bothers me about this is that it's being motivated by an assload of lobbying from Accuweather... which is jackassed.

Reliable and accurate meteorological information should be the responsibility of our government... moreover - advancing forecasting technology and fostering more innovation should be a priority. Without hyperbole, it can be said without a doubt, that in the past the NWS has ABSOLUTELY saved lives... likely thousands of them. Their work is entirely in our essential national interest - and it's not something we should let fall to a company whose motive is profit rather than providing the most accurate and detailed forecasts and information available - regardless of who is paying for it.

It appears OSBF is just unwilling to learn the hard lessons that have been handed to him on this board. I will give him credit for an utter lack of humility and an apparent congenital resistance to embarrassment.

This is ridiculous. Suppose I say that I want government to post an official guard for each individual to protect them from any harm. If you oppose that it must mean you want people to die.

Take tornados. Do you know what would happen if government completely eliminated anything it has to do with tornado warnings? Not much. We would be fine. The risk of dying from a tornado, which is extremely small in any case, would increase slightly.

He's clearly never lived in an area that deals with tornados. Three years ago tornado sirens saved a couple thousand lives in the Cedar Falls area.

Last year a tornado tore western Iowa apart, and there was a boy scout, or some group like that, camping in an area that didn't have tornado sirens. The tornado went right freaking over that area and the group didn't know what hit them until it was over and people were dead.

I'm sure those in Arkansas, northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota would do pretty much anything to save tornado alarm systems.
