btw - his cop out that "he's always done that from time to time" is complete and utter bullshit... I knew him in the mid to late 90's when he was lowly state rep... sure as hell never sounded like that then... of course, he wasn't trying to win a GOP primary back then...

This quote right here is PURE GOLD...
Back in South St. Paul, Jim Fleischaker, who cuts hair at the Cutting Corners Barber Shop, said he had no problem with Pawlenty's accent. "He never ceases to surprise me," Fleischaker said. "To reach the southern people, you've got to speak to them like they do."
Because why... because Southern people are so stupid..?
What is the inference with this quote - I'm insulted (almost) and I'm not southern at all (but I do love the South)
What is it with Politicians... God I hate those ridiculous pieces if sh!t
Now they've got regular old barbers thinking that being disingenuous is "normal good 'ol smarts"

that right there is a "minnesota quote"
around here we refer to the south as "the dimmer latitudes" the comment just drips with derision... which I have to admit I kind of love...

Actually,
First: He'll need to write some Anti-gay legislation...
Then get busted giving a blowjob to his drug dealer in an airport restroom
Only then does he get his fully accredited Republican card

Hmmmm.
Last Republican President born in the South was Abraham Lincoln. (If you count Kentucky as the South... if not, then no Republican President has been born in the South).
Three of the last four Democratic Presidents were born in the South.

Reminds me of the Hildabeast circa 2007...

Very predictable. I knew when I saw this thread somebody would post that clip.
At least Hillary lived in the South for decades...

And promptly reverted to her nasal Chicago accent when she got that dee-luxe apartment in DC...

Yet, she never 'used' the accent until she ran for president.
At least Pawlenty's accent was actually pretty good.
Weak and predictable retort, dback.

Not as weak as claiming to pick up a "slight" southern accent while living in the south, but losing it every time you left.
Then again, maybe not. I seem to pick up a British accent whenever I visit England, but lose it once I return home.
You are right about one thing. This topic is pathetic.

I went to high school in Houston. Early in our married life, my wife said that I used to "slip into Texan" after I'd had a few pops.

Tell your wife that you aren't the only one. I've heard her speak after a couple of Lady Di's bloodys.
