I won't spend too much time defending Obama
I'll wait to see if he implements a socialist Stimulus check program
And spend 9 years in Libya after claiming it'll only last 6 months at a cost of 60 billion

Just...wow. Obama's done exactly what the international community agreed should be done in Libya. Explain exactly how this makes him 'less-prepared'? :?

You fvcking idiot! :dunce: There is no clear agreement!

It is clear that the "international community" cannot agree on what it wants done. Every member of Obama's coalition - half the size of Bush's coalition - bickers incessantly. Delcve in to the "clear" UN and Arabal League resolutions. And don't forget that there is not a single democracy among Arab League members.

It is clear that the Obama administration has no clue who makes up the resistance is in Libya. Benghazi supplies among the highest per capita al Qaeda fighters of any city in the world.

It is clear that Gadaffy continues to kill innocent civilians on the ground with or without the no fly zone.

True to form, you value the approval of the "international community" above the required Constitutional advice and consent of your own elected representatives.

Bush went to Congress. Obama went to Rio. Have we ever before had a three-war president?

Bush declared war outright (and lied to Congress, and the American public, to get their approval :ohno: ); Obama decided to enforce a no-fly zone, which does NOT require Congressional approval.

Burn a Koran in Florida vs kill 7 UN workers in Afghanistan?

High taxes/anti-business/pro-union Californmia vs Low taxes/pro-business/anti-union Texas?

Cleets' notion of moral equivalence?

So it is the international community that dictates US foreign policy and determines when the US should use its military? At least you are honest on Obama's priorities and who he takes his marching orders from. Congress<International Community.

Last time I checked, it was only Congress who the President should be listening to when there the requirements for the War Powers Act are not present.

Let's review-

Desert Storm- approved by Congress
Desert Shield- approved by Congress
Operation Iraqi Freedom- approved by Congress

Unicorn Dawn (or whatever they are calling it) not approved by Congress, NOT covered under the War Powers Act.

So, I guess that the "Obama Doctrine" essentially means that you can use military force if a few European countries approve.

...AND.... as was argued in another thread, the US will carry the water for the operation.

Stop trying to make arguments for this guy. At least Bush was able to put the authority of Congress behind HIS crusade.

Yes, it does.

You are 100% wrong on that one. Dropping bombs and shooting missiles into another country is an act of war, and THEREFORE either has to meet the requirements of the WPA or be approved by Congress. Read about it.

Dude you are dropping turds all over the place in here.

The president doesn't have the power to declare war, only congress does.

Bush led the country into no armed conflicts without going to congress and the UN- which the Iraq invasion was in response to Iraq's violationof the cease fire treaty in 1991. The belief of WMD and support for action in Iraq and Afghanistan was bi-partisan.

Your attempt at revisionist history is laughable.

I seem to remember a lot of folks (particularly on the left) who, in their continual bouts of self and America-loathing, like to remind us all how we equipped the mujaheddin in Afghanistan during their fight against the Soviets. Somehow this makes us culpable for the problems in that country after the Soviets left. Many people who supported that aid to the Mujaheddin cannot understand how it is that those same people could turn against us in the form of the Taliban.

The difference between then and now is that as preachy as folks like Obama can be about the subject, they apparently don't listen to their own tripe. Even the SecState has said that "we are still getting to know the rebels." We have intel that there are elements of the Algerian chapter of Al Qaeda fighting with the rebels. We might be helping them against a despot, but as we speak our government is considering sending arms to the rebels. Have they learned anything? Have they considered the consequences? Is all the smug posturing about how Reagan helped the Taliban into power just that: posturing?

At least in the defense of the people who helped the mujaheedin ... they had no historical context to see the consequences. Obama DOES, and he's doing it anyway. I guess that when it backfires a few years down the road, his apologists will be able to say that at least he had the approval of Europe and the other Arab tyrannies.
