Christ on a crutch, I can't take much more of this media hype.

The ocean has 326 million trillion gallons of water. That's 326,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons. 10,000 tons is about 2,500,000 gallons of radioactive water.

Something tells me the ocean will be just fine. But I SWEAR the media is just aching for a huge accident/story....and in the absence of one, they're making it up!!

BP is behind this.

They obviously didnt get it done in the Gulf so now they are working on the Pacific.

Is amazing there are so many people and companies out there that go out of their way to wreck the environment but never close the deal. Whats up with that?

There's going to be some monster king crab caught next winter.

Those crabs will be smarter than 98% of all american kids in public schools.......probably have a better jump shot than most of them too.

The hysteria over the radiation would be comical if not so sad. People have no clue as to how much radiation we are normally exposed to in daily life. They hear radiation and freak out.

And to put it in perspective, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill resulted in over 209,000,000 gallons of oil being spilled into the Gulf, a relatively confined space, all things considered.

this is a regional catastrophe - with the currents - this is a problem for northern japan's fishing fleet - and that's about it... it sucks, but if Chernobyl (so many many times worse) taught us anything - it's that nature will recover - it'll take time, and mostly people staying the fuck out of the way - but nature will recover. localized disasters like this (even the gulf oil spill) are bad - but they aren't the massive global catastrophes they are frequently made out to be.

Glad I'll be dead when all this shit comes to a head and whole ecosystems we rely on start to shut down. I'll rest in peace with the comfort of knowing Z's children and grandchildren will suffer the most virulent of cancers and disease and fight horriffic wars over food and water SOLELY DUE TO THE GREED AND IGNORANCE OF THEIR FATHER AND GRANDFATHER.

Completely missing that humans will be dead far before any ecosystems will be.....................Yawn.

Many whole ecosystems have perished due to humans - Europe's wildlife and forests, America's forests and coral reefs and countless other.

Just not the big ones yet - the barrier reef, the amazon rain forest, the oceans - and these are dying rapidly.

Small, isolated/infrequent quantitative changes in ecosystems in and of themselves are harmless. They do add up and eventually create qualitative changes, which will kill us.

Well, if I were to believe the media hyperbole, I should start digging a fallout shelter immediately and start stocking food, water and iodine tablets for the imminent end of the world. That's a TAD bit different than your scenario, D.
