LAKEWOOD, Col. - When most kids throw a temper tantrum, they get time out. In 8-year-old Aidan's case, he got pepper sprayed.

A Lakewood Police report details the second grader's violent temper tantrum in a classroom at Glennon Heights Elementary on Feb. 22.

According to the report, Aidan "was climbing the cart and spitting at teachers. He also broke wood trim off the walls and was trying to stab teachers with it."

"I wanted to make something sharp if they came out because I was so mad at them," Aidan said. "I was going to try to whack them with it."

Absolutely deserved it. They should probably spray his mom too.

I saw this in the morning on GMA before heading out to work this week. The kid came across as an absolute a**. And the Mom was completely compliant towards the kid. Apparently at school he doesn't like being told to do things he doesn't want to do at that point in time (like, say, do something that every other kid is doing) and he got upset. Apparently had broken off a piece of wood, sharpened it, and threatened teachers and students that he was going to "kill those mother f**ker*" if they dared to come out of the classroom. Super kid. Apparently never does this at swimming practice, according to the Mom, so it must be something the teachers are doing.

Wrong reaction. This is at least borderline abuse. Yes, the 'rents are guilty of blatant neglect. But the PROPER reaction (as much as I don't like it given how they normally operate) is to bring in CPS. Pepper spray is a HORRIBLE thing.

it's unpleasant - but at least the cops didn't treat him like they treat grown ups brandishing a weapon toward them...

this kid needs one simple thing: discipline. i'm not talking about beating the tar out of him - just a firm hand who won't back down from "no"...

You're right. I would think that someone should start kicking this little fuck and not stop until there was absolute silence. At that point they should have called CPS and said "get this fucking pile of stewed tomatoes out of my class room".

If he'd been pepper sprayed a few times previously for misbehaving - my guess is he's be behaving right about now

CPS doesn't respond to violent confrontations, police do. The pepper spray is the correct way to disarm a minor wielding a sharp object threatening harm.

I could disarm an 8 year old in two seconds. If I did though, I would be in jail. Teachers, in public schools, cannot touch kids, which is a shame because some of em need to pummeled.

This is one thing the catholics got right - proper punishment. While I'm sure in light of the recent sadism and sexual abuse issues some things have changed, but a bulldyke nun would kick your ass for the slightest transgression.

One of the funniest stories in grade school was getting my ass kicked in front of the class for sticking my pencil in the overhead projector fan during a math lesson. She was hitting me, but it didn't hurt, so I was smiling, the class was laughing and she finally gave up and sent to the principles office. The principle was thankfully not a nun and seemed to find humor in what I did.
