10 Things Obama Could Do to Earn my Vote

1) Close GTMO - like he promised. Send every swinging dick there back to Afghanistan and let them live in their own filth there.
2) Get us the fuck out of Iraq - now. In August of 2008 the Iraqi President (prime minister?) made the statement that they didn't want US troops in the country. Fine. We should have been out of the country within 90 days. Lock stock and two smoking barrels. If Obama had a pair (or if Bush had had a pair in his waning days) he'd have every troop transport lined up at the Kuwaiti port and we'd be leaving that country to self-destruct.
3) Get us the fuck out of Afghanistan. Bandl bringing that Restrepo thread back to the top just got my blood boiling again. We're fighting a war there with no intention of actually WINNING. The 'hearts and minds' campaign is futile, and these people don't give a flying fuck about us. They'll switch sides at the drop of a hat, and they just want (as Ursus said) for both sides to quit collateraling them. We need to get out, and get out now.
4) Admit Obamacare was a mistake and table the whole fucking thing until it's properly researched, vetted, and designed.
5) Admit the Social Security system is flawed and either agree to privatize or or provide an "opt out" option for those of us who wish to do something more productive with that 6.7% of our income (like flush it down a toilet)
6) Come to grips with the fact that this country can NOT sustain it's current spending patterns and cutting $61 billion from a $1.4 TRILLION annual deficit isn't "cutting the budget". Eliminate useless, duplicitous, outdated government departments (Education, Homeland Security to start with) and cut everybody elses budget back to 2004 spending levels.
7) Propose and get passed a balanced budget amendment that includes presidential line-item veto authority.
8) On top of the reduction in military spending to 2004 levels, close 50% of all bases overseas and cut foreign aid by 50% (this one's for you, Houndawg).
9) Eliminate the IRS and implement a flat tax of 15% across the board, combined with a national sales (consumption) tax that applies to all purchases so the prolitariat can feel like the rich are getting fucked a little (this one's for Baldy/blueballs)
10) Increase spending 10x on alternative fuels research, mandate 40% of power from nuclear power by 2015 and open up American oil fields for drilling/refining in the short-term.

I could quibble over a few of these items with you, but this program would certainly get the US back moving in a more positive direction.

AZ, I didn't see anywhere on your list an option of just giving up and letting the Chinese take over. Did I miss it?

If someone could get all that done, I would suggest they stay President for life, Obama or someone else.

I thought someone might make that mistake. I'm not saying get ALL that done....hell, even 2 or 3 would be a great start...particularly if it's the RIGHT 2 or 3. :nod:

Pretty much agree with most of what AZ said:
1. GTMO I would disagree unless we had military tribunals (or just shot them all). Closing Gitmo and simply setting all those rag heads free wouldn't be a good idea because most of them would go right back to committing terrorism against the US. AZ, you would set the high value Gitmo detainees free, including KSM? "The 9/11 Commission Report alleges that he was "the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks." He is also alleged to have confessed to a role in many of the most significant terrorist plots over the last twenty years, including the World Trade Center 1993 bombings, the Operation Bojinka plot, an aborted 2002 attack on the U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles, the Bali nightclub bombings, the failed bombing of American Airlines Flight 63, the Millennium Plot, and the murder of Daniel Pearl.""
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khalid_Sheikh_Mohammed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

3. So yould you have never had the US go into Afghanistan after 9/11? What would you have done knowing that Al Qaeda was based there (and the 9/11 plot was planned there) and they were being harbored by the Taliban?

5. Agree on FICA. Just want to point out thats 6.2% for FICA (for 2010 up to 1st $106,800 of wages). If you include the 6.2% that your employer has to match, that you would otherwise see in the form of higher wages, thats 12.4%.

1) I would release them in the same way the Russians released the Somali pirates that attacked the Russian cargo ship. If you're not familiar with that, youtube it. :nod:
3) I guess if I'd thought we were going to fight Afghanistan just like Viet Nam then NO, I wouldn't have gone in. If we aren't going to fight wars to win, then we shouldn't bother fighting them. We haven't fought a war to WIN since WWII.
5) Agreed....and you're right, it's 6.2%... :dunce:

Ok, I agree about treating the Gitmo detainees the same as the Russians did to the Somali pirates (16:45 minute of this video).
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On Afghanistan, but what would you have done after 9/11 then vis a vis Al Qaeda?

I'd have leveled Afghanistan and let any other country know THAT'S how we treat countries that harbor terrorists. You're either with us, or you're toast. :nod:

For the short term...right now it 4.2% but that is only from the start of this year. Doesn't change your point or the fact that I agree with ya.

Great thread AZ. I'm with ya on it. When I was reading that at first I was thinking to myself "Holy shit, I wish I had read this before replying on the Restrepo thread cuz it's gonna look like I copied this thread!" until I got down to the part where you credited me.

I gave a little sigh of relief that it wasn't plagiarism on my part.:lol:

Your posts are like mine. Nobody responds to them. We are undervalued and unappreciated. We should start our own website. These people don't deserve our understated eloquence.

Really? What's the difference between AZ going for the guy most likely to do what he wants and you going for the guy a second time that is most likely to do what you want? As many of you guys have shown...he is not doing a lot of the things that you voted him in for either.

AZ is stating that although Barrack goes against what he wishes on many things he would switch sides for a few main points.

What is it you disagree with that AZ is saying he would jump to your guy on?

everybody knows 9/11 was an inside job.

eliminate all foreign bases overseas. ALL OF THEM. Bring troops home and use them to invest in improving infrastructure across the nation. Make SS a CHOICE. Nestegg for those who want it, OPT OUT for those who don't. Audit the FEDERAL RESERVE and abolish the income tax.
