Watching "Whale Wars" again and again getting really aggrevated that those "Sea Shepherd" clowns get away with doing what they're doing. Some nation's military really, really needs to put a stop to that crap. You shouldn't be able to run around harrassing other vessels like that.
That Japanese would be justified in blowing those twerps out of the water.

Well, it's called Whale WARS, isn't it?
I'd pay good money to see a Japanese destroyer light up the Sea Shithole like the 4th of July....

I'm on the liberal side of this argument. I like what they're doing. I see a parallel here with what Arizona is trying to do with the immigration laws. The Japanese are exploiting a loophole in the international agreements on whaling, but since there is no real enforcement or oversight, they get away with it. The treehuggers are just carrying out their own enforcement. At least they have balls. Arizona has enacted their own laws on immigration because the Federal government refuses to enforce the federal laws. Arizona wants to carry out their own enforcement under the color of state law. There are differences, but the underlying theme is the same.
All that being said, I think the crew of that ship is a bunch of granola treehuggers and if I were on board I would likely throw half of their petruli-oil smelling a$$es overboard within a week. (Except for that hot chick that cooks in the galley. I'd probably nod a lot and say a lot of mmm-hmmms while she spouts off about global warming in order to coax her into the sack)
Also, I don't know why anyone would think lighting up the Sea Shepherd would ever happen or be feasible. We can't even get people to light up a bunch of Somalis on speedboats carrying RPGs.

I have no issue with their cause. My issue is THIS... the people themselves are completely unlikeable.

The cause is good but the way they do things is wrong.

Give the Sea Shepherd crew a good bath and arm the boat with torpedoes. Then I have no problem with it.

I think the international community needs to address the issue of Whaling since CLEARLY the Japanese are exploiting this loophole.

I know I'm in the minority on this - and given how lefty I am this may surprise some... but here's my question since I haven't watched the show...
are the whales the Japanese are taking endangered? if they aren't... why the fuck should it matter? not for nothing, but what the fuck makes whales (that aren't endangered) so all-fire special that they can't be hunted and eaten like tuna or anchovies or crab? whale meat has been a traditional part of the Japanese diet for more than a millennium... I say, provided they aren't endangered - a small, well-regulated harvest ought to be just fine.

I believe they quote some statistical mumbo jumbo about overfishing and the collapse of the whale population....so in essence, I believe if they AREN'T endangered yet, the belief is they will be soon if they (Japanese) are allowed to continue exploiting the loophole.

I'm not very impressed with the whales intellegence...they would probably vote for Obama again even after what they now know.
being chased by a harpoon ship they continue to swim in a straight line. If they would take an exit stage right or left the boat could never maneuver to keep up.
Dumb whales

Tricky thing that... animal rights nutters (and these people give even PETA a bad name) will tell you that even in completely healthy and stable populations to advance their aims... I'm not saying it's a complete falsehood - but I am DEEPLY skeptical that harvesting a few dozen whales will decimate their population.

Z (Tman) = full of blind hatred.

Has no problem undermining the heroic efforts of people simply for how they look or conduct their lives. God forbid you live simple life in harmony with nature and eschew the bloody battle for money, red meat and consumer goods.

Z, the efforts of people like you are not heroic. You and the rest of the Ayn Rand fan club have absolutely no concern at all for the animals and plants of our planet. You also adhere to Darwinist morality based on selfishness, greed, villification of the poor and oppressed, and overconsumption.
You've earned the hatred againt you.

They had a pretty badass harrassment boat until they lost a game of chicken with a whaling ship....steel>fiberglass.
