FWIW, the mayor has been under investigation for close to three years on these charges. She wasn't mayor when these offenses began, she was the City Council President. Hlaf the charges involve gift cards from Gap, Circuit City and Eddie Bauer that a contractor gave her whilst they were dating. She didn't claim them on her income tax or something.
I think it's much ado about nothing.

Sorry.
It's a huge story here as you can imagine. I don't live inside the City, so I really don't care either way, although I do like her. Did she do something wrong, yeah probably. Was it an inappropriate relationship? Yeah probably. Are there bigger problems in the City that she appears to be handling (murders) of course.

I haven't figured out why the dogs were called out on her in the first place. Unless she did something to make, then Mayor/Governor O'Malley angry. He is extremely vindicitve.
There is SO much wrong with the City governemnt its just odd that they are making a huge deal out of a glorified gift card scandal.
BTW, murder count is up to 13 already.

And only 12 days into 2009.

How long has the murder rate been so high in Baltimore? The only time I visited, 1995, it seemed like a pretty safe city.

HA! It was at it's worst in the mid 90's. I think the record high was 350 something in '95. It's gone down. I think there were "only" 230 in '08.
It is a safe place for the most part in the touristy areas. It's flat out hell in the bad neighborhoods. The Corner, Homicide, The Wire, all very accurate depictions of Baltimore's residential areas.

Ignorance is bliss I guess. Are those neighborhoods comparable to some of the ones on D.C.? I got lost there a couple of years ago and very quickly found myself in a place I didn't want to be.

In some ways SE DC has got nothing on parts of East or West Baltimore.

I'll stick to the ballpark and the inner harbor when I go back. Thanks.

Like I said the touristy areas are fine. The Stadiums, Inner Harbor, Fell Point, Federal Hill, Canton all perfectly fine.
You should check out the Canton waterfront, it's been rehabbed very nice. The Square has some great eats. Nacho Mama's is my favorite restaurant of all time!
