Reagan's farewell address...

Post by NDSUFREAK »

So i was browsing inauguaration addresses and listened to Reagan's for a bit. But then I found his farewell address and how much it compares to the USA now, and how his warning has nearly turned into the truth 20 years later. I thought it was kind of interesting to hear...and to also see the greatness of Reagan's speaking ability.

The part im talking about starts at the 6 minute point.

He was an actor freaky, and he had damn good speech writers. Bush tried to fashion himself after Reagan, the greatest President in conk history, but he was too stupid and Reagan was oppositely smart in the way he conducted himself.

I will not bash Reagan, though he is certainly bashable, because his timing was perfect. We needed some strong change at the time, and he did a pretty good job delivering it.

im not trying to bring former President Bush into the discussion at all. I'm just saying by observation...what he said in those final 3 mins have summed up the situation right now IMO

Wow, how times have changed. AZ, T-Man, Big APP, this is supposed to be your message, your vision, and just look at what lil' bush has done to it. He is no friend of yours.

Thank you freaky, I will pass it on.

Which is why I can not call myself a Republican any longer. The values that were once the Republican values are now firmly in the camp of the libertarians and the Ron Paul Republicans. If you watch Reagan's innaugural address it was something special considering where the country was at the time and where it ended up under his stewardship. I now hope that Obama can have as much success as Reagan did in elevating us but I do have serious reservations considering his politics are very different than what I believe in.

That is why I have never been a Republican. As with Cleets, I believe both parties are more focused on obtaining and maintaining their own power than they are focused on carrying out their party's ideology. The polarization has migrated into corporate, union, and activist philosophies, to a degree none pursue goals that are in our country's best interest. For me, the sun rises and sets with our country's best interests.
As you may have noted, beyond the Bush Administration's policy of pursuing terrorism, there's little that his Administration did that I agree with: Not economically, socially, or with foreign policy. I've said it before...his Administration's been a trainwreck...but that doesn't mean I find fault with everyone in his cabinet, which would be a knee-jerk, unsupportable position. Further, wasting time INSTIGATING hateful ad hominem attacks against Bush do nothing to advance any discourse or resolve any problems.

Because he had a "D" beside his name. Interesting that Clinton really didn't have an enemy to fight. Reagan had the Cold War. Clinton got to revel in the booming economy after the fall of Communism and a relative peace. I'm not bashing Clinton because he was more conservative than Bush. But, Reagan still had a lot on his plate, especially fixing Carter's mess. You need to quit thinking like Travis and realize that it's not your party that makes you good or bad...it's the person. What did he do that was treason? Perhaps, how is what he did anymore treasonous than what FDR and Lincoln did?

and dont get me wrong, I consider myself a republican. But I'm a "Glenn Beck" republican. Whatever is best for the country. IMO i do not consider obama the best for the country and dont support him as of now. if he proves his worthiness i'll stop and listen. but we need a president who will unite the country. a change from former President Bush is a good thing at the moment. but obama to me...not a reagan.

NDSUFreak - Glenn Beck is a partisan, not a "best for the country" guy. He rabidly trashes any and all Democrats.

If you want what is best for the country, I can guarantee that is different than what Beck advocates.

He votes for who he thinks is the right man for the job. Now, he is no Michael Savage or Sean Hannity in those terms of bashing any democrat

But his right man ALWAYS ends up with an (R) beside it...

It is fine to be partisan. But to proclaim that you are not when you are is not.
