dback you wanted some proof that wolves are decimating the local elk and deer herds. Here you go. Idaho is going to get first crack at killing some of these rodents.

http://missoulian.com/articles/2009/01/ ... s/br76.txt

LEWISTON, Idaho - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for permission to kill wolves in northern Idaho to protect deer and elk herds.

Fish and Game Director Cal Groen said the federal agency can grant that permission if state or tribal wildlife agencies prove wolves are the reason elk and deer are not meeting population objectives set by wildlife managers.

He said the agency is concerned about the Upper Clearwater River Basin.

"We can demonstrate wolves are significantly impacting elk in the Lolo Zone," he told the Lewiston Tribune.

Wolves are canids, not rodents...

And we will see what "proof" they offer.

And control the neanderthals with high tech guns, GPS units, base camps, million dollar spotting scopes, maps, 4 wheelers, and satellite phones who shoot and poach them regularly because they have little dicks.

Where does that come from??? It is illegal to hunt from a 4 wheeler. Never knew hunting camps were for people with little dicks. Using walkie talkies and sat phones are illegal also. Wolves should be killed all day long. They are ruining the hunting seasons here. First it was 500 in MT and that would be plenty, now it is over 1500 and they have no clue what to do.

He could be referencing the recent and deplorable new world record elk fiasco where a mega wealthy Idaho man bought a $170,000 Governor's permit in Utah, then hired a herd of professional guides to find a reported monster elk ("spider bull") using any and all means to find it for him. The bull was shot on private access only public land, during the black powder season. This great white hunter was using some sort of wildcat mega howitzer he had built for him. This permit allowed him to hunt with this cannon not only during the black powder season but the archery season as well. Boone And Crockett Club recently certified the kill as the new #1, and judged his hunt "ethical." A real black eye for the sport IMO.

No disrespect to those who support the wolf re-introduction, but I can tell you they are kicking the hell out of the elk herd here, and chasing them from the mountains to the farm lands right outside of town, something that would have been totally unheard of ten years ago. The expense of controlling the wolves is going to vastly outdistance the cost of bringing them in, and they will have to be controlled.

I think it was a horrible mistake, there just isn't room for them here anymore IMO. You know the grizzly range originally spanned from the Mississippi river to the west coast before the west was settled. Imagine the wisdom of re-introducing them to Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, etc.

Wolves have no natural enemies. They will get a few when they allow hunting again.

We have had a pretty violent pack working the upper Clarks Fork drainage for a number of years. The elk have moved out, and the locals up there started losing horses, cows, and pets. Last year while sheep hunting I watched a government helicopter working on the pack, with open side doors and 10 gauge Ithaca semi-autos blazing. This fall they told us there was only one wolf left, a female and she had two pups with her. On my last day elk hunting up there this fall we were on horse back and observed a pack of at least 9 wolves run across a hill side not more than 200 yards from us.

Fvcking liars.

If they are reprdcing at a rate that is detrimental to other wildlife, thenhey should be managed with seasons and limits like any other big game....but allowing teir population to be decimated at random is just as irresponsible as allowing them to reproduce at an unmanageable rate....they are part of the natural cycle and serve a purpose...

protect them at all costs? - no

hunt them to extinction? - nope

...balance....

Don't worry Appa, there could be a no limit on them, like coyotes, and we would never ever get even close to getting rid of them. If they get hammered in one area they just leave or go nocturnal.
