Good for him!

All the H1B visa employees should be booted before a single American is laid off - and not just at Microsoft, but all IT companies.

These work visa programs were never intended to allow a company to retain foreign guest workers rather than similarly qualified American workers, when that company cuts jobs during an economic downturn," Grassley wrote in a letter sent Thursday to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The letter asked Microsoft to detail the types of jobs that will be eliminated and how those cuts will affect the company's H-1B workers.

Well....what's a few jobs, as long as we used to feel "safer." 8-)

Grassley's pissed too because Microsoft just postponed construction of a $500 million data center in West Des Moines.

Payback's a bitch.

Not Chuck Grassley. He's as pure as they come. He's just a good hard working Iowan that mows his own lawn. That's why we keep sending him back to the US Senate.

I utterly loathe Grassley's political agenda and decisions, but the few times I've met him, he's been a decent human being. I give him that much credit. And I must give him some small kudos for regularly attending UNI events.

Grassley is a nice guy. But he's also a politician which means he's a lying, opportunistic piece of shit.

I don't think it's fair to lay off the H1B holders first, but I guess your opinion on whether or not it is fair comes down to whether or not you believe we needed these H1B workers in the first place. I myself don't buy into the theory that H1B visas are just a way to get cheap labor. GSU's College of Information Technology and other such programs have an excellent track record of placing graduates in the IT workforce.

Also, this piece right here is a pretty good read on the subject. It's interesting that almost one third of HP's employees are foreign despite relatively low unemployment in the tech industry.

If our concern about the lack of physics and computer science teachers in high schools and the lack of qualified math teachers (in middle schools) was half the concern about student's attitudes towards the environment and evolution, we could fix the problem.
