Fluoride is the least of our worries, it's the dihydrogen monoxide component of brushing your teeth that you have to worry about. Dihydrogen monoxide can be found in large quantities and Nuclear Power Plants, the Navy does experiments with it, it is a primary component of acid rain, it causes soil erosion and is also considered to be a greenhouse gas.

Honestly- I am not worried about this personally (except that I bathe in it) I have a water filter, and brush with Fluoride-free toothpaste.. I am posting this because you, or your kids might be affected, and I think it is worth pointing out for the health of you and your family.

BTW, anybody who thinks the FDA knowingly allows compounds known to be hazardous in products like toothpaste is smoking rope. Yes, it misses things sometimes. That happens. But we are talking about an agency that is currently looking at something as innocuous as putting caffeine in chewing gum as unacceptable. If there were evidence that putting fluoride in toothpaste in the concentrations being used in toothpaste were harmful it wouldn't be in there. Trust me on this. Tell a business owner who's regulated by FDA and has had to undergo a FDA anal exam that FDA is friendly to industry. He (or she) will laugh you out of the solar system.

I'm also not a jackass- I know Fluoride is an industrial byproduct created from the Phosphate and Aluminum industries that is very toxic, causes bone cancer, reduced IQ, and dental Fluorosis. A by-product so dangerous it prompts warning labels on toothpaste, yet is routinely added to people's drinking water.

Why would there be a warning label on Toothpaste, if in fact there were no risk? That doesn't make much sense does it now?

So basically, your logic is that since you can get fluoride poisoning from swallowing toothpaste that water fluoridation is bad? Better eat a salt-free diet, I've heard the salt in sea-water can cause your cells to dehydrate. Better not do any drinking either, since drinking rubbing alcohol is also pretty dangerous.

Better not eat any green leafy vegetables or drink any tea, either. They naturally contain fluoride.

Now, I have expressed skepticism over statements issued by professional associations. Statements issued by the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association pertaining to homosexuality, for instance. So I guess I can't criticize you for doing something similar.

But, at the very least, you know that there are those who think the FDA warning is excessive. That's consistent with the point I was trying to make about the FDA in an earlier post. And in any case the warning is against basically eating the toothpaste. You're not supposed to eat it.

Now, my opinion is that the CDC tends to exaggerate health risks and overstate evidence for adverse health effects (see second hand smoke issue). I see no reason why it would decide to underplay the risk of fluoride. I don't see why they would toe the line for "Big Phosphate" while they're reaming all sorts of other industries (like the food industry and the issue of foodborne disease).

In my opinion...and I've had a lot of experience with the CDC as part of my job...the CDC is MUCH more likely to say a health hazard exists when it really does NOT than it is to say that a health hazard does not exist when it really DOES.

Ok. I use Close Up toothpaste. I buy the 8 ounce tube. It's 0.24% sodium fluoride. That means if I ate an entire tube of the toothpaste I use I would ingest 0.54 grams of sodium fluoride. That is about one-ninth of the lower range of the lethal dose you reference. And, again, that is if I for some reason decided to eat an entire tube of toothpaste. I don't think anything close to that is going to happen.
