Obamacare is Here....let's review

The estimates end today. I am not signing up, there isn't a need, however I am going to look and see what I would have to pay if I had to go through Obamacare. I wish I had done this previously so I could compare. I'd be interested to see how this shakes out. Are any of you going to review your available plans? I'll post what I see for South Carolina.

So far, at http://www.healthcare.gov" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, you have to sign up. Well, the page where I enter Security Questions isn't working. Hmm.. More of the same.

I worked for a company that dealt with Obamacare. It wasn't pretty as providers had to hire more people for the paperwork, buy new computers to process the data fast enough to be able to enter the data before the next patient appointment. Some lost patients because they could not keep up, and bitched at us.

I'm all for helping people that can't afford health insurance, but there had to be a better way. I can see the mandate making criminals out of people that do not participate, leading to a debtors prison type situation.

So much fail. Tried looking at rates for a small business. It tells me that there is an error and the dataset is private. Tried looking at rates for an individual. Had to create an account. Asks for security questions but the questions won't show.

My wife works at a hospital and they've been converting to the online digital records system. Some good things about it - has eliminated a lot of faxes/emails for medical orders, should be better for patients if they go to multiple doctors. But the system is some weird programming language, doesn't interface well with their existing system, doctors/staff are spending way more time putting data into the system which means they see less patients.

I've had the same issues. So far so good. I'm so glad the Democrats rolled this out.

It does not effect you. You have Health Insurance.

:ohno: It will. New things have to be covered. I'm sure when I go through open enrollment, my premium will be higher due to the ACA.

Everyone will be impacted whether you're covered by private employer health coverage or not. It's not like there's a huge number of "extra" doctors waiting in the wings to swoop in and take over with all the additional demand for care. More people will be covered, but the quality of care will likely drop as docs are handing larger loads and waiting room times will increase. :twocents:

Do you make less than 80k a year? if you do, your Premium should go down. My wife carries the Health Insurance and we pay almost 650 a month.

Should go down? HA! We will see shortly, won't we.

85% of the people in America don't have to do or change a fucking thing because of this law. Enough said.

Correct, but you don't have to change to have things change for you.

It will only get better for me, Brother Hen. And, those homeless kids you spit on outside your payday loan shop will now be one step closer to the American dream you're claiming for yourself and your ilk.

My BCBS Basic Family Plan employee share premium for me and my sons is going up 4.43% to $3,711.60 for 2014. I'm not happy about increases that outpace inflation, particularly when my pay has been frozen for three years and I am now a furlough pawn at the mercy of a dysfunctional Congress, but I guess it could be worse.

No one's listening, 93. You're a postal inspection supervisor in D.C. pulling down $250,000 taxpayer green/year to sit on your dainty ass and fuck around on CS.com all goddamned day. It's because of mouth-breathers like you that people hate the government.

Think of it this way, if you're expendable enough to be put on furlough, chances are, you're just plain expendable......

MOF, who's your Congressperson?

Speaking of my Congressman (Rob Wittman), he proposed a resolution (quickly shot down by Donks) at 12:30 am this morning to ensure all furloughed employees get back pay. He knows his constituents. VA-1 has a bazillion fed civvies on furlough.

What a ridiculously short-sited statement, but par for the course.

Just because one currently has health insurance doesn't mean that one won't be affected.

Why ruin a perfectly good shutdown with guarantees of backpay? Why do it, then?

Maybe because 800,000 people suddenly not getting paid will destroy any economic progress? Keep in mind there are more people on furlough as of today than work in the US automobile industry. I don't recall what the exact number is on how much this will reduce GDP, but it is not pretty. Not to mention the facts that the cost of a shutdown outweighs our meager salaries saved.

The shutdown is now costing taxpayers $300M per day. Nice move tea party.

I have no love for either extreme, but ramrodding a poorly planned, little understood mess of a healthcare plan through Congress (no matter how noble a cause it may be) is going to be our undoing certainly in the short term. There's plenty of blame to go around for the current predicament :twocents:
