Federal obligations exceed world GDP
Does $65.5 trillion terrify anyone yet?
As the Obama administration pushes through Congress its $800 billion deficit-spending economic stimulus plan, the American public is largely unaware that the true deficit of the federal government already is measured in trillions of dollars, and in fact its $65.5 trillion in total obligations exceeds the gross domestic product of the world.
The total U.S. obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits to be paid in the future, effectively have placed the U.S. government in bankruptcy, even before new continuing social welfare obligation embedded in the massive spending plan are taken into account...
...The Treasury has been largely dependent upon foreign buyers, principally China and Japan and other major holders of U.S. dollar foreign exchange reserves, including OPEC buyers purchasing U.S. debt through London.
"The appetite of foreign buyers to purchase continued trillions of U.S. debt has become more questionable as the world has witnessed the rapid deterioration of the U.S. fiscal condition in the current financial crisis," Williams noted...
Calculations from the "2008 Financial Report of the United States Government" also show that the GAAP negative net worth of the federal government has increased to $59.3 trillion while the total federal obligations under GAAP accounting now total $65.5 trillion.
The $65.5 trillion total federal obligations under GAAP accounting not only now exceed four times the U.S. gross domestic product, or GDP, the $65.5 trillion deficit exceeds total world GDP.
"In the seven years of GAAP reporting, we have seen an annual average deficit in excess of $4 trillion, which could not be possibly covered by any form of taxation," Williams argued.
"Shy of the government severely slashing social welfare programs, federal deficits of this magnitude are beyond any hope of containment, government or otherwise," he said.
"Put simply, there is no way the government can possibly pay for the level of social welfare benefits the federal government has promised unless the government simply prints cash and debases the currency, which the government will increasingly be doing this year," Williams said, explaining in more detail why he feels the government is now in the process of monetizing the federal debt...
"The federal government is bankrupt," Williams told WND. "In a post-Enron world, if the federal government were a corporation such as General Motors, the president and senior Treasury officers would be in federal penitentiary."
And yes, it applies to protracted overseas wars also...the military will need to get the job done quicker, and get the hell out. And the piss-and-moan pussies over here can just stuff it up their cornholes.
No donkjerking here...the remark about criminal negligence applies to Clinton's, Bush's and Obama's administrations. Somebody needs to start telling the truth about the debt and GDP. Our country cannot continue to exist as a consumer nation: We must return to a productive, positive trade cashflow nation. It's going to take a national leader with a lot of courage to stand up and tell American's there's no more free lunch.

Here's how to get on the path to a balanced budget...
Abolish the department of homeland security
End all federal control of education
Scale down the war on drugs
Get the hell out of Iraq
Cut off all funding for the UN and its subsidiary organizations
Make budget cuts in most federal beaurocracies

I believe you have a winner..
Throw in the abolition of tax exempt status of religion and it's a home run.

How about this...follow the 10th Amendment...have the federal government do what it is responsible for, nothing more...
Leave all the other things up to the states...if a state wants a social service, it does it, and pays for it...
I think we could reduce our federal debt pretty quickly...and since most states can't run deficits...we'd pretty much end socialism in this country...

Guys my age will never see the Social Security and medicare benefits we think we're paying for. And with the damage done to our retirement accounts, most of us will work until the day we get the ride to the Cadillac Ranch.

I stopped counting Social Security into my future a few years ago...If I get some of it, great...
My fear is that with a military retirement, the government will stop paying it because of the overburdening debt we are running up...then, I have to work till the very end...

Agreed, Dave. THAT is a fear of mine as well...

!0th Amendment - how quaint. That horse long left the building.
Unfettered capitalism clearly is not working - nor has never worked. Milton Freedman and his ilk are the cause of the crisis, not social spending.

Let's all be honest here...
...does any of us really "count" on Social Security?
I NEVER have...if for no other reason than, IMHO, government is tailored to subjugating people, countries, akin to the lecherous sugar Daddy. You can "bid" on government contracts, so long as you follow "the rules" and grease the right people or have the correct skin color...kneel at the hand of the bank of Big Government.
Or worse, Medicaid...folks who are "poor", just enough to buy a house, a car, etc...but not enough to cover long term care...Medicaid will cover the costs with a 5 year look back, so, there's a hypothetical that the estate can end up in debt, or worse...folks who have gone bust in the past 5 years, are left out in the cold.
Here's the hint...
DON'T RELY ON GOVERNMENT TO BE THE CRADLE TO GRAVE MONEY MAMMARY...

10th Amendment has nothing to do with Capitalism and you socialist desires. It has to do with the federal government only doing what is enumerated. You need to wake up and smell the coffee. Greedy capitalist and government inteference in capitalism is what caused this mess. Your boy Barney Frank and people of his ilk have a big hand in this one, but Dems will never admit that. It comes down to doing what is right, but it's clear the Dems forced through legislation, regardless if it was right, just to gain more governmental power--and you still want to put all the blame on capitalism. That's just baffling.

So what you are admitting is that the Constitution is no longer valid...that without formally changing it, we can simply ignore what ever portion we find inconvienent...
Sad...but true...

The 10th Amendment was ignored the day after it was ratified. 200+ years of prescedent are going to be impossible to overturn.

Need a fiscal conservative government, and I don't care if it's socially liberal or conservatve.
Bush raised the debt 3 Trillion in 6 years
Bush plus Donk congress 2 Trillion in 2 years
Obama plus Donk congress predicted to be 4 times more than Bush

I like challenges....difficult, yes...with the Democrats in power...nearly impossible...
But the challenge is worth the effort....
