Obama, Castro shake hands

Post by CAA Flagship »

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama shook hands with Cuba's Raul Castro at a memorial for Nelson Mandela on Tuesday, a rare gesture between the leaders of the ideologically opposed nations that reflected the anti-apartheid hero's spirit of reconciliation.

I dont see anything wrong with this. You can shake a man's hand as a sign of respect. So again, what is wrong with that?

I don't like Obama, I didn't vote for him and I think he's doing a completely crappy job as President. It doesn't bother me in the least that he shook Raul Castro's hand. In fact, it's about time that someone did this. It's an appropriate gesture of goodwill at Mandela's funeral and consistent with what he represented (look beyond past grievances and build toward a better future). We need our officials to stop acting like children on the playground giving someone they don't like the silent treatment.

I am no fan of Obama, and have no problem with him shaking hands with Castro. Fidel is going to die, eventually. We need to make peace with them.

I'm good with it too. Maybe once Fidel kicks the bucket we can start vacationing on their beaches again. God knows they need the money.

My grandfather told me all sorts of stories about the casinos and the women in Cuba. I'd love to be able to retrace his steps some day and enjoy a Cohiba and Courvoisie after dinner.

i saw this picture a couple hours ago. I laughed. I saw the three pics grouped together about 10 minutes ago and nearly lost it. Thats probably why Obama invited the Bushes to join them for dinner as soon as they got on Air Force One. Doubt Obama will want to be alone with her any time soon.

I'm not a fan of that one. The President of the United States should be on equal footing with any other leader. No need to bow lower than the Saudi King or anyone else.

Greeting a King or Queen with a bow is not a big deal. Its custom in those countries to greet the monarch that way, so be it. But I can understand the opposition to it, since most in this country today show little or no respect to others.
