As far as racism is concerned, we are a nation of cowards.

This isn't a GD interview where we are prepped on the subject at hand here mass fan so why don't you give us what the hell you are talking about and why you feel it to be so then we'll actually have something to discuss. That "discuss" shit is fairly annoyieng whit a topic that is this broad, or any topic for that matter.

Why? You mean we have no right to be upset that holier-than-thou liberals were constantly insulting average Americans by asking if America was "ready" for a black president just before a black president won by a nearly Reagan/Clinton type marigin of victory? If America was half as racist as white multiculturalists and the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton types suggest then Obama would have had no chance of winning.

It would have been helpful to provide a link to said comments, since not everyone may have heard of them...

I'll try and forgive you mass fan, I do have a fairly forgiving nature so things are looking up for you man.

I had seen nothing of what you were talking about so my confusion on the subject was merited. if you had provided the link or a synopsis of the issue it would have helped "paint the picture" for me brother. No hard feelings, I forgive you. :D

Holder: U.S. 'a nation of cowards' on race
Nation's first black AG says Americans avoid talking about the topic

WASHINGTON - Eric Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, said Wednesday the United States was “a nation of cowards” on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues.

In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.

“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” Holder said.

“If we’re going to ever make progress, we’re going to have to have the guts, we have to have the determination, to be honest with each other. It also means we have to be able to accept criticism where that is justified,” Holder told reporters after the speech.

In the speech, Holder urged people of all races to use Black History Month as a chance for honest discussion of racial matters, including issues of health care, education and economic disparities.

Race, Holder said, “is an issue we have never been at ease with and, given our nation’s history, this is in some ways understandable... If we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us.”

Nope. it's pretty dead on to me. I talk fairly open and honestly no matter who I'm talking to and I don't have a lot of friends here in Montana that are black so it just doesn't come up here very often. I have had ONE candid argument with a black guy I know personally that thought he didn't get a job due to his color. I asked why he thought that when another black guy was holding the same position in the same organization? I thien asked if it couold be that it had something to do with hi lack of experience or possibly his attitude? The heated discussion went on from there. People don't like to look at the facts when it reflects badly on them. Same reason here that some might not want to admit that as a nation we have been cowardly in the discussions of race. It doesn't paint us in a good light when we have to admit that in THIS INSTANCE we have been cowards.

The PC movement does have some culpability here as well as our willingness to point the finger and say "That guy is an asshole for saying...".

I'm not sure coward is the correct word, people like Jesse and Al, are always crying racism that some people would not like to talk about it at all, I think these cry babies are the cowards, if they would just shut up, then maybe people would feel more comfortable talking about race?

I definately think that if some people didn't cry racism at the drop of a hat there would be more dialogue.

But just as many are unwilling to consider that racism could or does affect decisions even today.

Agreed, that's part of the Pc component I'm refering to. They are cowards in a lot of what they do. Corporations that fire people due to the bitching of a few are cowards for falling for their shit. A mojority of the "Look at what he did" people either in the media or the general population, all contribute to this disease. We let the double standards stay in place and that throws a majority of us into the coward crowd with the rest.

An example:
Don Imus calls the Rutgers girls Nappy Headed Ho's. Al Roker states publicly that he believes Don Imus should lose his job. Whoopi Goldberg states publicly that she thinks Don Imus is racist and should lose his job. Imus apologizes, has a major set of nuts and goes on Sharpton's show and takes a beating all the while saying that he is very sorry for what he said.

Al Sharpton uses racist terms toward whites with no reprisal almost at will. He used the term "Jewing Down" and has very little blow back on the subject.

Al Roker makes a joke about epileptic seizures a couple of weeks later with NO reprisals for his comment.

Whoopi helps Ted Danson apply black face for a costume party without caring about the racial repercussions. She also dismisses Elizabeth's comments on The View as "Very White", again with no blow back.

Excepting Whoopi, Don Imus is the only one that has a comedy show. Comedians have always had a little free reing to make comments/jokes about fringe matters because it is at the heartbeat of their chosen professions.

None of these four should have received a lot of grief for their minor slip ups. Only one did. Why is that? It is because America (White majority) cowers down to the chicken little bullshit and acts as a majority like a bunch of little butt hurt finger pointing pussies when we're told to.

We are cowards, It just isn't nice to hear so we reject it.

Lets not forget the Bull Shit laws in place about this. People sue for racism. Too talk about publically in a venue like that could result in a lawsuit. To attack a white man, is seen as protecting against racism. To attack a black man, is racist even if the attack is on a racist action.

Not related to your post, but the first step to getting racism to stop is ... If you call yourself an African-American you need to have been born in Africa.

Some of us, even us crazy righties, don't feel a need to discuss race. I am not a racists, I could care less what color you are. I work with quite a few different minorities from black, hispanic, asian, and gay. All are good people, that's what's important to me. I think that for my generation, we don't talk about it because it's irrelevant to most of us.

You're misintepreting my statement.....what I mean is that I believe it is cowardly to act like race is not a big issue anymore as well as own up to some stereotypes people have of other races...I believe we all have them, but are afraid to express them for fear of being branded a "racist" by the types you speak of....short of being labeled a "child molester", being branded a "racist" in our current society is the death knell of a career, credibility, etc.....and when people like Sharpton, JJ, Duke, Muslim clerics, et al. can hurt a person by throwing the "R" word around without repercussions, then that's a lot of power that the general public is too cowardly to stand up to.....let's quit being cowards and call a spade a spade...
