A Tampa church canceled a man’s funeral one day beforehand when parishioners complained that the man was gay, according to his widower.

Just last week, 42-year-old Julion Evans was given six months to live after battling a rare disease for four years. Two days later, he died.

Evans and Kendall Capers were married recently in Maryland. They had been together for 17 years.

After Evans' death, Capers arranged for a funeral at the church Evans grew up in: New Hope Missionary Baptist in Tampa.

Capers says the pastor made all the arrangements for the viewing and service.

But then a notice went out that mentioned Evans had a husband. That’s when Capers says the church canceled the services.

He says the church called Evans' mother to say they couldn't hold the funeral.

It's Florida. Nuff said. This is the state that allows this:

A Florida church had previously barred children from attending service because a sex offender convicted of two counts of child molestation had become their pastor right after he got out of prison. He was prohibited from being in the vicinity of children, prompting the church ban on children.
Just the other day, the probation on the pastor was changed to enable him to minister to children and the church leaders lifted the ban from kids attending service.
Darrell Gilyard, 52, is currently pastor at Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., and began his tenure at the church right after being released from prison in December 2011 for sex crimes against two girls at his previous church.
Democrats. :ohno:

Churches can do what they like. There's no "state action." Nothing to see here. Move along.

WAFJ. :ohno: :ohno:

It would appear that this is probably a predominantly black church which makes this even stupider. :dunce:

That doesn't mean it wasn't a dick move, and you're a dick, too, if you condone it. :coffee:

Weird. Alfie told me gay blacks have it made in the shade in this country.

It's interesting that you mention that. Florida's ban on gay marriage was supported by 71% of black voters. It would have never passed without them. But for some weird reason gay marriage supporters blame "the Mormons" for the ban.

Wait, what!?! Oh D1B didn't start this. So Catholics aren't to blame. Sad story. May he RIP. The service wasn't for the dead. It's for his family and friends. The churches parishioners should make something change. This isn't right.

Nope. I support everyone's right to be a dick within the constraints of the law. Especially my own. :kisswink:

Blaming all of Tampa for one CHURCH following their religious beliefs???

Sorry Dback..you lost this one.

If you had bashed this church for reneging (sp) on their agreement would be a different thing...
